Another Dealer Bites The Dust

  1. Sorry but I just don't see the numbers adding up that way at all.

On £28K the income tax and NI is £4K or less p/ year, therefore £200K for 50 years.

If they pay £100 pcm on council tax its £60K for 50 years

If they pay 20% VAT on everything they earn after tax its £4, 800 or £240,000 for 50 years.

This all makes a £500,000 contribution, less costs incurred by the state ...

The costs the state incurs on them is considerable, especially if they have kids or a major illness

Remember not all of them die without ever contributing anything, and the years of retirement will mean they receive a pension and a multitude of ailments that require expensive treatments.

The £2,000,000 figure as a cost is way out imo, by at least £1,500,000

  2. Yep, I get that, and don’t quite get how they get to that figure, I’m just throwing that into the mix.

Your figures are assuming everyone is on minimum wage though, plus £100 a month on council tax seems low, especially as ours is currently £340 a month. What on earth that will be in another 20 years is quite a scary prospect.

  3. You are right there is a clear variation, but £28K is the average salary, and we were looking at the average cost to the state so it seemed appropriate.

Yeah council tax -if only it were available as an investment, its going up so fast! Then again water bills too are scheduled to double over the next five years. I guess they feel that is only right as energy bills have already doubled!

  4. Bear in mind nearly half the population pay no income tax at all. May even be more than half now.

Edit: it’s hilarious how I typed bear, maybe misspelt with my fat fingers, and Apple decided I really meant another animal starting with b….beaver.

  5. Fascinating -thank you.

The issue for me in all those calculations -not withstanding I may have (probably) misunderstood some- is the reliance on WTP from a study in the 1990s. I would need a great deal more information on how this was arrived at, and all the source data; as what people profess, as to what they actually do are often in practise very different.

  17. I have successfully bought a few parts from MotoRapido by emailing them. My experience of visiting them at Winchester has been poor in the extreme.

  18. I have had great experiences buying parts from Moto Rapido.

Anytime I have been disappointed, it was because of Royal Mail, who let both myself and Moto Rapido down. They are now my default for ordering parts etc.

  19. I was going to write the identical response. You’ve done it for me. MR are my goto for parts.
