Took the bike down the test station this morning, having checked and prepped everything I could for the MOT. My biggest worry was the back brake, still only OK after doing all the bleeding and fitting new pads. It passed with flying colours, and when I mentioned the brake the guy said it had more than enough power to pass, but he noticed it needed "quite a bit of lever pressure to make it work". I thought "you should have seen how crap it was 3 weeks ago" but kept that one to myself - Thanks to Aircon for helping me get that last little bit of power out of the stoppers Only other comment was how bright the lights were and how loud the horn is (both upgraded from stock). 15K Service and a then a visit to CJS on the cards for the next couple of months...
I can lock mine up now (causing the ABS to come on), never did that before the "mod". You'll fall in love with your bike all over again once Chris (CJS) has worked on it. When I had mine MOT'd (May) the guy nearly dropped it twice, but then he was knee high to a grass hopper. I asked to help, but no, he'd been testing bikes for 20 years... He spent over 3 minutes looking for the "keys" to start it, before coming back and asking me
I don't know what else I can do with mine, but there's no way it will trigger the ABS. I've bled the caliper, bled it again with it at head height and kept at it until I got no more bubbles. I also fitted the bleed nipple to the ABS unit and bled it several times, then changed the pads as well. Not sure what else I can do. TBH the performance is "acceptable" now - it will slow the bike enough to roll up to junctions at about 10 or 15 miles an hour and stop OK, but it's still the crappiest back brake I've ever had on anything other than my Aprilias. I think I'll have to stop worrying about it now it has passed the MOT and just get out and ride it while the weather is still OK
I degreased the rear disk before fitting the new pads (HH grade). Apart from that I did the same as you.
I was underwhelmed with the back brake on mine (had the mod apparently before I owned it), but I've got used to it now and I've got the ABS going a few times. I think repositioning the lever to suit my (lack of) style made a difference.
Added a Steibel and a relay - dead easy to do, and covered in a step-by-step guide on AndyW's info site
