Waitrose doing Laphroaig 10 year old for £29 at the moment. Picked up a bottle last night. https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/laphroaig-10-year-old-single-malt-whisky/062145-31497-31498
Mrs Cringe treated me to a whisky tasting session last weekend. Although there much more expensive options, it was the Macallan 12 year old I bought. Noice…
I have a couple of bottles on the go at the moment 12 year Glenfiddich and The Ardmore. Both very nice
Continuing the bargains started by @GarySN Tesco have Ardbeg down from £51 to £39, Talisker Skye down from £48 to £28 and Smokehead down from £40 to £26 for Clubcard holders along with some others. Any fans of Islay malts who haven’t tried Smokehead yet should do themselves a favour and get to Tesco; just avoid their hideously overpriced Laphroaig at £31…
Wormtub cask strength 12YO - just needs a few drops of water to take the edge off and soften the sherry cask imho.
How do you guys feel about cost v's quality ? My last purchase was a 15 Glenfiddich for a discounted £41 . I looked along the shelves at others but they seemed a bit light in the £20 - £30 bottle and beneath that i find them pretty crude and aggressive . For me its cheap and not so cheerful or £40 plus
I have a 1l bottle of MACALLAN 12 which I purchased in 1999 and stored in the cellar. They now retail at £1100 with an auction estimate of £450-650. Wasted on me. If anyone wants to make me an offer feel free.
I generally tend to be above £40 as I struggle to find anything I like below that as I have quite specific tastes. I also consider it a treat to myself so won't go for the cheap and cheerful options, but try and keep it under £100. Having said that I picked up 2 bottles tonight in Tesco's for £54; a Smokehead (highly recommended for Islay lovers) and a Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold (which should be kept in the freezer ). If you have a Tesco's nearby I'd recommend a Clubcard as they regularly do extremely good offers; Talisker Skye was also under £30 which was almost half price.
