New Ducati 890cc V Twin Engine Announced

  1. Less power… a LOT less power. Quoted as 120hp and 126hp with race exhaust. The outgoing bike is 155hp crank, and we all know normally putting out around 126-130hp at the wheel.

    I know why, it’s emissions, but the exhaust they need to strap under this will negate the weight saving so your left with less power, less emissions (the good bit) and way more expensive end product.

    it’s easy to be negative, I’ve tried so hard to think positively with each of these new launches but the bikes now are for a different customer than myself.

    trouble is, as we have seen from other threads, there a lot of us saying the same and questioning where those customers are who want to pay £18k for the new V2 with 30hp less than the one that came out 5 years ago. HP isn’t everything but this won’t have more torque, because the VVT will be there to reduce overlap for emissions efficiency, not for absolute performance like it could be pre Euro 4

  2. No it’s not the replacement for the Panigale V2, it’s the 950 Multi engine replacement.
     
  3. Maybe so, but it will have less power comparitively without the desmo and they will chage you more for it anyways. Guranteed.

    Whats left that makes ducati, ducati these days? No trellis, no vtwin, no desmo. Its progress I guess, but one thats left many of us behind.

  4. 120 HP, good torque spread and light weight should make for some decent, capable road bikes ;)

  5. Never stay stuck in the past, mate. It’s guaranteed to make anyone irrelevant.
    I loved my old Ducatis but the newer bikes are so much easier and better to ride.
    That engine has more power than the current 950 engine.

  7. I will eat my hat if this isn’t the engine they put in the v2, or the basis of it. It’s just too expensive to develop a totally new engine unless they can spread it across at least 3-4 models, in my head it’s the engine for the multi 950, the monster, the supersport and the Panigale. I can’t see how it won’t be, but I’d love to be wrong.

  9. A light weight engine in a small package sports bike, should be a riot.

    Not one of us on here can exploit a V4 Pani to its full potential.

  10. Never in a million years did I think I would find a bike I liked after a 900ss ST4s and MTS 2013. I found love with a new Tracer 9GT, 30bhp less, far less electronics and I just love it. So less can be more.

  11. Maybe they will drop the V2 pani?, I don't think I've seen one on the road . Surely multi, monster, supersport is where it's at for sales .
     
  12. Yes. Why wouldnt i? Less weight, more power, better suspension...what's not to like?

    The British motorcycle industry made the mistake of thinking they could carry on selling the same designs in the 60s and 70s. That didn't end well.

  15. The current Monster, Supersport and Hyper 937 engine stays for 2025, but you have to think that will be the last year before the new V2 is in all the above models..
     
  16. Thats not my point Duke, my point is that much of what made Ducati's different are no longer. It may as well just be any other manufacturer. I personally think they've thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Just another bike now thanks to VAG. I will stick to pre VAG and cock a snoot at the modern stuff. I'm a luddite, I know. The same probably happened with the bevel guys.

  17. Possibly why I have one of each of the evolutions from 888 to Pani having started on a 600SS, which to keep tho.....

  18. We’ll all be riding synthetically grown 0 emission horses in 20 years. Either that or growing gills:upyeah:
    Think I’ll keep my lightweight 899.

  19. I remember when I got my 899 having been used to the 848 etc and it felt a bit ‘digital’ and disconnected. Now when I ride it, it feels beautifully connected and raw, and direct. Almost flawed to perfection!

    I’ve had a lot of new bikes and I think we don’t really notice how much more disconnected and ‘managed’ they are getting, I’m not saying I hate all electronics but I think we have to face the fact that the days of a 160hp GSXR1000 demanding serious respect because a snap of throttle will do what you ask, we are way way past that.
