Not much been going on as I'm waiting for the frame to be strengthened around the headstock. So whilst waiting finished the discs
Yes good colour match, what paint was it, and what do you have planned for the back wheel. Cheers Gaz
Used Hammerite gold, great match Both wheels and frame will be white, bike came with a 750 rear wheel fitted which from memory is 5.50? but bit of luck came with a spare 900 7.50? which last owner didn't get around to painting, Just waiting for the frame to be done then its all off to the powder coaters, then its engine for a full strip and rebuild.
depending where you take it for powder coat, remind them not to cover up the VIN, as they did with mine edit: come to think of it 2nd time around I was much happier with a painted frame.
Going to use Maldon powder coaters have used before and all frame/ wheel bits and bobs all taped up nicely. Just debating gloss or satin white probably gloss and swinger will also be powder coated as close to original colour as possible,
full disclosure, it was them that did my frame, the white gloss finish was also prone to staining, petrol etc. transpired I hadn't been offered the "protective" laquer coating, I suppose in fairness we're going back a bit here, 1998/99 from memory.
Yes it is, i had a pair of bobbins welded on the underside and welds cleaned up and its taken the lacquer of the side of the arm in that areas, i will have a chat with the coaters to see what they can do maybe vapour blast and clear coat? they also do cerakote of which i don't know anything about.
Roadtrip, I may be wrong, I hope someone can confirm but I think what you are referring to as lacquer is anodising. This is a hard surface protection and not sure vapour blasting is the best method of removing. Have a search on anodised aluminium and this may give you a better way forward regarding stripping and re anodising. Cheers Gaz.
'Tis clear anodised...tricky one to restore tbh. It is not easy to get a "new" restored factory finish. You can remove the anodising with Oven Pride and then run a red Scottish pad over and over in one direction to get the small striations then clear lacquer to protect. The YouTube channel RRC Restoration restored one, I think it was the VFR400 build.
...or you could get it re-anodised. The acid bath will strip off the old, then it should be plain sailing (as long as you have a local friendly anodiser...)
