Hi there, I've just joined the site as I am doing my research on a Multistrada V2 I have seen for sale but a lot of the reviews I have seen are all about the V2S which I get as that is the more popular purchase I am guessing as it has a lot more fitted to it, but at this moment in time my budget doesn't quite extend to a second hand one of those. The V2 I have seen is a 22 plate with 3500 miles on the clock, has a quick shifter fitted and to be honest its only going to be used once or twice a week for a few hours bimbling about in the countryside so as my first step into Ducati ownership will the V2 be enough? Appreciate is possibly a daft question but if anyone has any experience with the V2 rather than the V2S that they would be happy to share that would be great. Thanks, Tony.
The only significant difference between the V2 and V2S is the Skyhook electronic suspension which, for most, makes a huge difference when touring. How much horse power do you need ? The 937cc engine in the V2 will still lose you your licence Probably a good first bike as your introduction to Ducati ...... unless you can find a 1260 which is, for some, a better all round bike. Thanks for the replies, I should have said actually as I currently have a Harley I am having to look at used bikes the Harley dealers have as if I just go to any non Harley dealer they are offering £7k for my bike whereas Harley are offering me £9500k for my current bike, so its also a way of getting into Ducati ownership and away from Harley at the same time, hope that makes sense!
The S also gives you LED Headlights - and colour dash.... Lights are much better on S if you ride in the Dark... If you are daytime rider - then not important. The suspension on the S also is Dash adjustable... but you can tune in the standard bike fine.... The S helps if you swap from Solo to Pillion... but again... probably not an issue I had the 1200 S ( 2 of them) then bought the V2S... Only kept it a year... nothing wrong with it.... just did not ride it... Its plenty fast enough... but does not have the tear your arms off feeling you get with the 1200. As above the 1200S or 1260S if you can find them is a GREAT bike... not just a good bike.
Just to add something that may not be obvious - you'll be exploring a rev range that is unknown on your Harley. I don't know the difference in weight between the Hypermotard & Multistrada, but the 937 engine is certainly bonkers and 'rewarding' on my Hyper as the revs get silly (& the engine loves it!)...
Note theres a new V2 Multi on the horizon due next year 25 with a completely new engine design , probably announced imminently. That will likely have downward impact on current & older multi V2 bikes with the soon to be old engine.
So I have now found a 1260S on an 18 plate with just under 14k on the clock which seems reasonably priced, has full Ducati service history, waiting to see what the dealer can do on my Harley against it, hopefully they can do something on it for me but time will tell I guess!
Ok so things appear to be working out well as I found another 1260S again on an 18 plate but with just over 7000 miles on it and it is for sale at £7850, is in amazing condition and seemed way too much of a bargain to miss so all the paperwork is currently being signed and life is looking good! One excited chappy! Tony
Is that from a dealer? Has it had the Cam Belts and Desmo Service - I think its 18000 miles - but maybe 6 years... so worth checking....
Sounds like a great deal, almost too good to be true; 7000 miles 2018 1260S for £7850, in great condition you say!? What's not to like. My insurance paid a total loss claim on my 2018 1260S in August, they paid £10050. So you've done very well for a dealer purchase. I would suggest an HPI check or similar just to make sure it's good good history. Desmo service is at 18,000 miles irrespective of age. Cam belts the same milage as the Desmo check or 5 years whichever is sooner, so technically, and in theory, it should have been done. Service schedule attached.
Yes I thought it was too good to be true and was expecting something to crop up but they had it up for initially £9950 or somewhere around that and they knocked £2100 off it and gave me a cracking price on my Harley, other dealers offered around £7000 to £8000 on that and they gave me £9500, as I say I was a bit wary thinking there must be something but all seems to be fine, they are doing a service on it for me and MOT before I get my hands on it and they give a 12 month warranty on their second hand bikes, it might have been a case where the planets have all aligned for me and for once life has been kind!
Forgot to add that my old bike has 25,000 miles on it and they still paid out the sum mentioned. Sounds like you've got a great deal there. The 1260S will offer you a lot more than a standard V2. Not only the lights, electronic suspension etc. but also the extra grunt. Especially useful with a pillion and luggage. Enjoy it when you get your hands on it. Dealers must being doing all they can to shift stock just to keep their heads above water, let alone in the lead-up to the quieter season for the trade. Hope that you paid your deposit with a credit card, can't be too careful these days with dealers going into administration left right and centre.
