I hate Amazon! B,B,B,B, BUT I have just checked my ordered list and everything just arrives quickly. I've even cancelled stuff and no dramas. And I hate them. That makes me a grumpy old fart who begrudges success. Not much to be proud about here! I will have to think about this!
i hate them too, he's a smarmy james bond villain and his bird looks like a pole dancer and it earns over $7000 a SECOND
Long time, no see! I war thinking about you the other day and wondering if you were ok and how your PI case was coming along.
they are still second in line after EBay for me, mainly because of the postage plus returns can get complicated* but still have a lot of stuff you cannot get on EBay EDIT *not talking about Amazon Prime here, @Ducbird @West Cork Paul - for £95 extra per year my returns ought to darn well go smoothly!!
I’ve started using eBay more recently as it doesn’t have a £35 minimum order charge for free delivery.
I find eBay good to. I did have problems once, with a supplier, who I think was selling fake stuff, but I never received anything. I raised it with eBay and they were straight on it, with an immediate refund. That's fine service and I always thought eBay a bit cowboy-ish, but I think that eBay have sorted out everything now, and I've used them a bit over the last year, with no problems! And much of the time, cheaper than Amazon!
It's all documented here if you look for my other recent posts. The short version is that a settlement was agreed with the other side in February (I think, either that, or january) but my solicitor had to go to the High Court to drop the case. The judge who ended up with the case, would not agree with anything. I had to go to the High Court in October to the Judge's office with my brother (who began the case) and my solicitor and barrister. Basically, the judge is angry with my solicitor, and so we all get to suffer. This judge has become obsessed with a report done by a psychoanalyst working for us, who said that I had brain damage and doubted my ability to look after the settlement. He subsequently updated that report to say that I am now fine, but because my sol didn't directly address his out-of-date concerns, he has decided to make every body suffer - just as much the other side as me. They also sent a barrister to the Judge's chambers, so there were two barristers, one solicitor and my brother and me. My entertainment was working out the fees that the other side are paying. I know that we were on £3450 per hour for about a two and a half hour meeting!, In the end, my barrister asked for an adjournment in order to discuss what to do. In that adjournment, I have has another ZOOM call with the psychoanalyst, who is very confused by the judge's obsession wi a report that he wrote a long time ago, and subsequently updated. Anyway, we had the meeting and I have no idea about what will happen now. I have just written to my solicitor asking if she can get me off coming to round 2, It is a long and expensive trip for me, in order for me to say nothing. I am quite happy to let my barrister and solicitor talk for me. After all, last time, I just sat there and said nothing!
I hate Amazon, they represent everything that’s wrong in the world, yet I order from them fairly regularly, and absolutely hate myself for it. I think I need help.
cash is king. personally speaking i never buy online unless i absolutely have to. if i cant get it locally i will phone rather than order on line. i like the banter when shopping.
I use Amazon all the time, pay for Prime so get all the films and TV programmes but more importantly get free delivery on everything, no matter how small the order, order a .99€ bolt today it’s here within 48hrs, even in back of the beyond rural Ireland. Brilliant service.
I found eBay became too expensive to sell on and buying was ok but everything took a week or two to arrive. Charges have changed now, probably due to the competition from FB marketplace? As for Amazon I’m all in, doorbell, speakers, lights, plugs, TV, Prime…….im one of Jeff’s bitches But as for shopping on there, their returns and warranty resolve has been faultless, buy something faulty, process the return, drop it off at a drop box and as soon as you close the locker door the money is back in your account. Again, don’t want it, just send it back. I bought my Cardo headset through them, it got wet and started playing up nearly a year into owning them, tried to raise a claim though Cardo themselves which proved tiresome and was getting nowhere, contacted Amazon, no problem just return them and we’ll credit your account. Mrs bought a Air-frier cook book for her mum, when it turned up it was a load of crap, so she processed a return and refund and they didn’t even what the book back. (They do monitor how many times you do this though and your account can be frozen if they think your abusing it)
Experiences can differ depending on what and who you are buying from on EBay/Amazon, but have found even this year that many Amazon sellers still display their contact details half-heartedly/reluctantly and even when you finally do get hold of them, it can take days for a response and Amazon haven't been interested in speeding up the process whereas EBay contact has been swift and effortless for me and the situation thrashed out and resolved quickly. I will take onboard what you said about faultless returns - it must have improved because i can remember that when it came to physically taking an item somewhere to return it, it used to be a total pain in the ass compared to EBay. EDIT i'm talking like for like here - Amazon Prime is a totally different ballgame, and it goes without saying that service would be better than "standard", it certainly ought to be anyway!
Same here Had no problem returning an order I wasn't happy with and it was picked up from home by Royal Mail
But what is eBays current strategy? We can sell for free - no income. There aren't endless adverts - no income We pay for car & bike sales of maybe £25 plus 1% or £45 so that doesn't seem to be huge... So yes they must get a slice from all the shipping we and seller pay for via them -does that really generate billions? Or do they have their own in house sellers flogging hand cream & hose pipes and generate the big bucks that way? BTW I use eBay often buying and selling of all sorts of stuff -though typically buying. Same for Amazon, I see their brilliant delivery guys so often I'm thinking of adopting one or two.
I haven't looked in depth, but easiest way would be to start finding some statistics wouldn't it? I get the feeling that eBay is still vast compared with Amazon in terms of transactions processed overall throughout the world.
True, I will have to put my sleuth hat on! But that said there doesn't appear to be a Mr or Mrs eBay in the top richest people in the world -unlike Amazon- so it makes me wonder. Duh- the big income provider has to be commissions from credit card companies for all the payments. Lets face it that must be huge if its worth foregoing all the transactional listing fees (apart from vehicles) to increase sales volume via the new look free listings. They had better be right, it would be very hard to U turn on that now.
