  1. Thanks very much for that advice. I copied and pasted your post to the mechanic and he replaced all those bits. The crank pulley was shot and was probably the reason it had thrown/snapped two belts in the space of a year.
     
  2. Had my first proper blast in Mrs.C’s JCW the other day. Bloody brilliant btw. It shifts along nicely!! Fun car indeed :D:upyeah:

  3. Bloody hell my post was actually useful! Haha glad it help. Yeah if the crank pulley fails it’s obviously less than ideal.

    I’ll probably do mine as a precaution in the winter, at the end of the day it’s a bonded rubber piece and they are 20+ years old now

  4. The edges of the metal runner/track on the outside of the pulley were also a bit chewed up, so on top of the play, they were probably cutting into the belt.
     
  5. so he fitted a new pulley and tensioner assembly? If so that should mean you have all new pulleys which will be good
     
  6. I think so, but he wasn’t there when I collected the car and I’m waiting for the invoice. He definitely fitted a new crank pulley. The job cost £354, parts and labour.
     
  7. Crank pulley is quite a costly part tbh! Just keep an eye on the replacement, it’s another one of those things where the OEM spec is always best and last longest, but you should be fine. The only thing I would never do is fit a solid pulley, people do but have heard some horror stories
     
  8. I thought it would be more than that because when I looked online the part costs anything between £250 - £400 and it probably takes an hour or two to fit.
     
  9. I think I paid £120 for the tensioner kit, the belt is £25, and about £120 for the crank pulley (retail prices of course) the crank pulley will have been a cow to change, they are pretty well stuck on there!!!

  15. Drove a customer's little min today, I can see why you all like them. Going by the firm suspension I would like to try one on a track for sure.

  16. R56, the better car to drive tbh but the r53’s
    Are even more agricultural

    I got mine back the other day form having new driveshafts and new shocks put on, so been driving it around over the weekend. It’s still like a skateboard though which on bumpy roads can get a bit annoying haha

  17. yes, I felt exactly the same, and not that good at getting thrown around at my age now! It would be perfect for a lovely flat surface, what fun.

  18. My little R55 went away to a new home today, in exchange for a pocket full of beer vouchers. One of them had to go, and I just couldn't part with the JCW.

  19. It was the torque steer that surprised me in the 2.0 JCW when clapping on a bit. I soon got used to it but it caught me off guard coming from rear wheel biased cars.

    And I’ve noticed she’s kerbed a wheel already… sheesh… :rolleyes:
     
  20. You shouldn't have been a tightwad, there is no torque steer in the AWD cars!
