Sunday, Sunday

  1. Been to the pub for Sunday lunch. They now do Otter and it slips down! Rude not to finish with a whisky!

And I found out where the brewery shop is past Bridgewater and a bit further on the M5 before turning south.

And another fing: I still plan to go to Santander in April/May time next year.

Out of interest, I wa looking at property prices there. Chip as chips companied to the UK!

I won't ever move as I cannot be bothered to, but interested in having a property there, where I would spend at least half my time. UK property prices are just crazy, but we all must be "educated" to believe that rising house price are a good thing - .....I don't think!!!!

And we now have a Labour government to sort this shit out!!! Tick, tick, tick, fecking tick!

  2. No more freedom of movement. So no free healthcare and limited time allowed in country. Something to bear in mind before buying a property abroad.

  3. One day, i will look into the rules, now that we are not in the EU. I think that there may be limits to how much time that I can spend here and what I am allowed to own in Spain.

    There could be complications.

I need to investigate the current rules,

  4. I think you’re allowed a maximum of 90 days in the EU. But not in a one-er. You have to space your trips over the year.

  5. You are allowed to be in the Schengen region ( NOT the EU ) for 90 out of 180 days on a rolling basis, so effectively two lots of 3 months per year separated by 3 months. For UK residents, you can obtain a GHIC which you can use for health cover whilst abroad but this gives the minimum cover that a resident of that country would have, not necessarily NHS levels of cover. No limitation certainly in Spain and France to property ownership, other countries may vary. If using your 90 day allocation to the full, be aware that entering Schengen 1 second after midnight counts as being in the region for a full day!

  6. The BREXIT bonus means 90 days max, in any 180 day period. Italy fines overstayers 5000 to 10000 Euros which does seem extortionate. Persistently overstaying in the home you have bought may even result in jail.

Here's a vid of Gove lying bare faced to EU property owners in the Brexit campaign. Scumbag.

  8. Actually he didn't lie. What he said was true, however being a typical politician he ignored the fact that the questioner was NOT resident France, but had a holiday home there so would totally not be protected by the rules that covered people with residence. So, as much as I detest Gove, he didn't lie. He dissembled. What you did see there was shit moderation and the questioner and the audience needing a kick for not actually making him answer the question that was asked though.

  9. Gove deliberately lied by omission. His clear intention was to mislead the the people asking questions and watching the program live. He absolutely knew that there was no basis to reassure the lady who asked the question at all and if he had any decency or backbone, he would have made a different reply. A dissembling Scumbag.

  10. Thanks for all the comments. I am certainly only considering Spain.

"You are allowed to be in the Schengen region ( NOT the EU ) for 90 out of 180 days on a rolling basis, " If Spain in Schengen (and i haven't checked yet) then that would be fine. I'll see how much my hotels cost me, first, as the easy option is to not bother buy any property and just stay in hotels. The advantage of that being that I am not tied to one part of Spain - or even just Spain, when there is France and Italy just across the border!

  13. If you want to live in Spain/stay long term, apparently it’s a lot easier to get residency in Portugal which then allows you to stay in Spain (possibly the rest of the EU?), my neighbours did it.

  14. From next year ( at a time still not agreed) we will all need a visa to enter the Schengen area. Whilst that in itself is not an issue for the majority wait for the screaming from the idiots who have committed offences over there and get refused a visa.
You will also need to provide a retina test and fingerprints every time you cross the border.

  15. Sorry but it doesn't. You only have residence in the country you apply to, any other country you're a tourist, limited to 90/180 ( except Ireland due to the FTA ) I'm the holder of permanent WA residence in France who had to apply for a visa to move to Spain. The only residence permit that allows free movement for UK passport holders or the 3rd country nationals is the European Long Term residence card which can be as onerous to apply for as getting an EU passport depending on the country you apply in plus you have to have been resident in that country legally for at least 5 years before you qualify to apply. If one of them has CITIZENSHIP, i.e. a Portuguese or other EU passport then they have full freedom of movement as a couple, but if you stay over 90 days in an EU country you still have to apply for residence.

  16. Portugal do a Golden Residence permit which supposedly allows free movement across the EU, but you do need to invest at least 250,000 euros in Portugal to apply.

  17. You won't need a visa. You'll need to register with ETIAS, a bit similar to the visa waiver scheme for the USA. ETIAS is specifically for persons from countries who already have visa free entry to the Schengen area. No visas will be needed, but folks who fail the screening will not be allowed to travel to the region.

  18. It doesn't. Once outside Portugal you are restricted to 90 / 180 days the same as everyone else with a UK passport

  19. Portugal currently has a backlog of over 400,000 visa applications so no one is going to be moving there quickly unfortunately. Some applicants have been waiting for up to 3 years.
