  1. Thanks JonnyBiscuit, I'm glad it's not just us.

We take his bed with us, another thinner one he has in the lounge at home, and yes a couple of throws for furniture too.
He likes one of our sofas at home, and has a blanket on it, but hasn't actually shown any interest in sofas whilst we're away.
I think being him he prefers the familiarity of his beds from home.

    Thanks for the links too.

Yes Z, a motorhome is the plan for a couple of years time when lady Nasher gives up teaching.
It would be a waste to have one now whilst she's still working as for most of the year she spends all weekend planning and marking so we can't get away.
She's on her 2 week 1/2term at the moment, we always go to Cornwall the week the state schools are not off, as they only have 1 week.
The beaches etc are so much quieter last week than they will be this week, although you'd be surprised at how many Discoveries, Defenders, Range Rovers, X5s, XC90 etc are in the popular beach car parks owned by the independent school parents.

Although it's going to have to be a special motorhome, smallish and 4x4, to take us to the places we like to go in the Land Rover.
Got my eye out for Mercedes Sprinter and Man 4x4 vans to convert myself if need be as this sort of thing is WAY out of our price range:

  2. Or, she could do what I do and take paperwork with her. I find I often get more done when I'm away than I do at home.

FWIW, and I hope I'm not teaching granny to suck eggs, but I wouldn't dive in at the deep end by getting something new and very expensive as you might not like vanlife. Get a secondhand van which has already lost most of its value so that if you lose interest you won't lose money when you sell it on.

  3. Keep looking at vans again...just bought the hairdressers car so funds give but could I live with a camper only as daily driver.... question i've asked myself for 5 years now!

  4. A campervan, possibly, but a motorhome, unlikely. I was between cars for most of 2022 and was using the Supersonic Shed as a daily but it was far from ideal. Car parks are a particular problem as many have a height restriction and the bays are barely large enough for a car, never mind a motorhome.

  5. Unfortunately the amount of 'stuff' doing her work involves we'd need a trailer behind the van to carry it.

We'd never consider buying a new van, I/we've never brought a brand new vehicle, it goes against my principles as a tight Git that let's others take the big hit on depreciation.
We've hired Vans of different sizes in the past and know where our sweetspot is in relation of being able to still get to places we want to visit.

  6. I love having a van, and so do our dogs! It's so versatile and perfect for holiday adventures with the pups.
I bought this ex-police Transit at auction, had it resprayed and I kitted it out as a very basic camper.
If required all the camper fittings can be removed in a few minutes, returning it to 'van mode' to carry motorcycles, mountain bikes, furniture...
Yes, parking in cities / height restrictions can be an issue so we have a very boring car for those sort of journeys.

  7. I bought this earlier this year, not a camper, but, I have had an awning rail fitted, looking at getting it Insulated and carpet lined, and, at some point, having a pop top roof fitted, but, it will still remain a van, so I can carry bikes in the back

This is the LWB version, 40cm longer than the SWB, it is a T5.1 with a full T6 front end conversion, it drives lovely, I preferred driving the van to the merc convertible that I used to have

  8. Stop it fellas, you'll get me chopping this in without owning it a few months.... when I have looked I found insurance very expensive

  9. That's a great van & good luck with your van conversion!
I've done a few relatively simple vans conversions, and I haven’t really found any of the jobs that difficult or complicated.
As you know the web is loaded with info on how to convert a van, and process of insulation / sound deadening and fabric lining is pretty easy.
If you are considering cabinets that can be removed for carrying motorcycles and bulky stuff, it's worth spending some time to ensure your wall and floor mounts are really sound.
    Good luck

  10. The only thing that phases me is the electrics. I did a race van and was functional but not pretty ;)

  11. Anyone bought a car on a lease deal and used it specifically for dogs?
If so, what’s the crack when you give it back covered in dog hair?

  12. Had various company lease cars, just got it valeted properly to get rid of the fur, never had an issue on hand back

  16. Thanks :upyeah: She's due on Sunday, but I'll not be surprised if they come a bit earlier. She's had enough of being like a beached whale :p We've counted 4 on the X-ray and (unless she has more boys than girls) they're already all reserved.

  18. Thanks :upyeah: Me too. It's a repeat mating (Chester-Calareto Rock On Tommy to Fly-Calareto This Bird Has Flown). We kept Nell (Calareto Norwegian Wood) from their last litter. This is Nell, so we're hoping for similar.
