Last one I saw was at corner speed with the engine in bits, only 1500 miles on the clock and needed a new engine Put me off a bit
Yeah, I saw that too… Wouldn’t have put me off mind. I remember being invited to buy one because I bought a new 999R. I was pretty skint at the time so the £42k price tag was comical to me. I’ve since seriously considered pulling the trigger on one but haven’t. Wish I had in hindsight. Ah well…
There are a couple of threads from 2015 onwards of where the bike has been have a look. It's been very well cared for
Blimey... I hope they did a bit more than just what you documented for £2k ! I suppose half of that is on parts and tyres... still not cheap eh !
Oh, I’m sure it has been well cared for, my comment was tongue in cheek really for I’d like to know why a little used bike needs a complete new clutch and I’m sure I’m not alone.
I’ve done 15,000 miles including a fair few tracks on it … Silverstone, Nurburgring, Mugello, Misano, Portimao, Valencia, Jerez, Magny Cours … oh and the IOM Mountain. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/8k-miles-in-a-year-doable.32865/
The need for a clutch replacement was spotted during the last service which was at 15,000 miles. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/d16rr-15-000-mile-service.37253/ Seems to be par for the course on those few D16s that have done significant miles. I knew I’d be laying the bike up for a few years so advised them I’d leave it till the recommissioning.
Great to read about your Desmosedici Dave. Have you still got the Baines? I am still suffering flashbacks from the sight of you in the back of the van in just your boots during WDW 2018
Yes I have, but that too hasn’t been ridden since I got into this travel adventure biking lark … just got back from Guatemala yesterday hence me posting now at 2:30 am … bleedin’ jet lag!
Had my hybrid 899 picked up for it's second Desmo service yesterday. He was surprised at my mileage: 29,000 miles!!
Think I must have done 2k plus of those with him….you don’t want to sit behind it long. If the noise doesn’t do you in the high from fuel fumes does
I remember following one excitedly and when I was behind him at the traffic lights the noise rattled my jaw Loved it the noise is something else
If anyone else would like to sample the sight, sound and smell next year let me know … opportunities for trips and rideouts welcome ;-)
