Why This is Brilliant News for MV Agusta Financial Stability: MV Agusta has faced financial challenges in the past, but with KTM’s backing, the future looks brighter than ever. To be honest, reading the above on MV’s website had me thinking “that’s KTM fucked then!” given their history…… Bless ‘em I’ve had a soft spot for MV for years, but for whatever reason they seem to be a poison chalice for anyone who takes them on?
the MV product nowadays is so much better than they get any credit for. My 2020 F3 (importantly a Euro4 bike) was absolutely flawless, did trackdays etc and it was just brilliant. Tbh you don’t really hear of them breaking now on the forums etc either, the product is good. But it’s too much money. £20k or as near for the Superveloce 800’s that come with really quite basic suspension is just too much.
I had a 2013 Brutale 800 and a 2015 Stradale, hands down two of the best and most memorable bikes I’ve ever owned, the Brutale was faultless (apart from the cheap fork internals) the Stradale, when it worked was an absolute hoot to ride and flattered your ability (or lack of) and I rode that far harder than I should have been able to, iffy fly by wire throttle though and dubious service partner forced its sale, still regret it though.
yeah the Euro 4 stuff, completely sorted the throttle and in the F3 case sorted all the valve spring issues, sprocket hub issues etc. fantastic bike and just gave so much feel and confidence
Someone I know had an 890R and went to the local KTM dealer to p/ex it against a 1290R. They wouldn’t take it. A KTM main dealer not wanting to take a KTM in ! No wonder they are in the shit. As for cars, a sales manager I know said they and a lot of other dealers will not take an MG and some other brand electric cars in at all. He said never buy an electric car, the only way to get one if you really want one is to lease or pcp it then if it’s worth nothing you just had it back.
https://motorcyclesports.net/breaki...brand-doesnt-fit-into-its-long-term-strategy/ KTM have been set free/cast adrift.
2000 MVs stored in Austria, no new MV production until March 2025 at the earliest, MV staff to receive 80% of their wage during the transition, MV to take over all management functions what could go wrong ? Andy
Odd thing with KTM around here, many dealerships have had a go at it, some long standing established names like Crescents and yet the partnership hasn’t lasted? I wonder why? Currently Destination Motorcycles in Christchurch are holding the baton, a relatively new dealership starting with triumph but quickly expanding to KTM/Husqvarna/MV, not sure what will happen now? It’s a shame for MV, can’t seem to remain financially stable long enough to grow a dealer network or consumer confidence?
I haven’t read the full thread in detail, but in comment to this. I do know that KTM are very demanding of their dealers. Maybe too much so in these difficult Financial Times. This could well have been the case with the dealers you speak of above.
An article from a couple of days ago, https://www.motorsportweek.com/2024/12/11/ktm-set-for-further-job-cuts-amid-financial-crisis/. If the article is accurate about freezing development of the RC16, bad timing for Mav and Enea to sign up. Andy
I don’t know if their current Indian business partner, Baja Auto, is big enough to take a controlling interest (aka bailing them out) nor do I know if KTM Asia, which appears to be a separate entity, would survive intact if KTM Europe declared bankruptcy. I’m not familiar with the off road market but I’m sure there's plenty of choice. Andy
I see today KTM have backtracked on their commitment to pay their staff 90% salary over Christmas, instead not paying them and it having to be claimed from the insolvency fund. That’s really poor form and behaviour from the board. all we need now is announcement that the CEO is taking home a huge lump sum bonus for his years work and it will fit into the cycle we are seeing all over the place. As a business leader in these sort of organisations they should be made to fall on their swords. It’s the only way to ensure that the culture within these firms is one of personal ownership and willingness to get the job done. Paying CEO’s in failing businesses massive bonuses just shows it’s okay to blame others and take no accountability. The race teams I imagine will be sold and run under a Red Bull racing banner and then I imagine decoupled from KTM so like RedBull F1, it will be Red Bull MotoGP but using probably Ducati or Yamaha machines
funny you say that , we run a new 150sx and I decided to buy a couple more pistons just in case supplies slow so that gives my son around 30 hours of engine spares .
