Some good suggestions on here to encourage new viewers to stick around and subsequently subscribe. Probably a good idea for the powers that be to review them.
There are 11 non subscribing forum members using the forum in recent posts yesterday and today Can't be that hard
Many thanks to those that helped me. Like many things, easy when you know how. I’ve taken the £5 plunge, cheap as chips and worth every penny!
To avoid putting off new subscribers, how about a free-trial period? No access to subscribers-only content, but an ad-free period of, say, a month?
Does nobody else enjoy the pop up adverts for gimp gear, lady boys of Bankok and Asian hotties looking for old bald blokes? Just me then.. Seriously though, try Youtube. That is really bad.
It’s better when you’re logged in and of course even better if you subscribe (which I do). My beef is that on ya I phone using safari the stay logged in feature doesn’t work. So you either have to keep logging in or get spammed by addys every other click while browsing and logged out.
Ultimately this forum (and at least one other Rob has) is being run as a business enterprise. Revenue is being generated from advertising as well subscribers. Yes, money is needed to cover server cost, but I suspect there's considerably more. Not complaining, it's a decent/passive income generator and business model for the owner. Bunch of enthusiasts keeping the traffic numbers up, add a couple of administrators that are prepared to give their time for free and away you go. I hate being bombarded with irrelevant and unsolicited advertising, if I was a newbie, I take one look and go to the darkside. Is it worth a fiver to go ad free and be able to use the for sale area? It probably is.
That's never been my experience. On iPhone and iPad I only ever use Safari, and always remain logged in, until the relevant cookie expires.
