1200 DVT Whats It Worth Post!!!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by glenandem, Dec 18, 2024 at 3:19 PM.

  1. hi guys im toying with selling my 1200s dvt because my missus cant get on with it as pillion, she much prefers the tiger I had before so maybe going back to a 900 rally pro.
im struggling with a guide price as they seem to be very varied looking on auto trader etc?
I bought this last summer and personally loved riding it and the way it handles and thought it was the perfect cross between a superbike and adventure bike but as I say I do take the wife out a lot and its no fun if she's constantly getting blasted and not comfortable.
its a 2016 1200s with around 9k miles, I had all the silver bits powder coated black and fitted a new supersprox/did chain and sprocket not long ago, put a puig screen on and an evotech mount.
have full givi trekker top and side boxes with mounting brackets but may sell or keep them.
any ideas what I should put it up for if I decide to sell without the panniers?
very clean bike with 2 remote keys and obviously full service history and belts done recently.

  2. Not really a good time to sell, Christmas around the corner, shit weather, a recession looming, anyones guess.
It's worth whatever anyones prepared to pay for it balanced by how desperate you are to sell.
I know that's stating the bleeding obvious, but its true, lovely bike, shit market.
Park it up and put it on a trickle charge until the spring.

  3. cheers buddy, oh yes good time to buy a bike and worst time to sell lol, to be honest theres no rush and Im still hoping if I havent sold it by spring I can bring the wife around more to it with a nice little trip to the Isle of Man.
off to buy my mate a ktm exc tonight and hoping the guys desperate for some christmas money lol but I just see so many varied prices on multi's looking around and going off last few months watching bikes, they don't seem to sell too well which I find strange as these bikes seem like a lot of bike for the money compared to others!

  4. as Mike said, worse time ever for selling, as you already know but there are still a lot of people who haven't come to terms with how bad it actually is. I really feel for people who are selling expensive bikes because they genuinely need the money for something else right now.

  5. i only had a quick skim, and not that knowledgeable on your bike - miles definitely in your favour but i'm guessing you are looking for North of 7K?

  6. The only people buying bikes at the moment are "webuyanybike.com" and they give rock bottom prices. maybe get a quote from them and add about 2-3K to that price.

  7. A set of the comfort seats might be good if you see any for sale (try and get the Touratech ones though). Maybe add a deflector to the screen if it’s the wind blast that’s the problem?

  8. For £20 a month you can place a classified advert on eBay, may as well run an advert whilst you're weighing up your options, you may get lucky.
It is however a difficult market currently, I had my 2013 for sale for a couple of months recently, even though it was the cheapest 1200 on the UK eBay it didn't sell but, that was probably more to do with the high mileage.

  10. You say she's getting wind blast. Is she tall? If the height difference between you is close, or she's even taller, then, given the seat differences, she'll be out in the turbulent air. Worth experimenting with different screens, screen deflectors as suggested by Twin4me, or getting her a quieter helmet.

  12. I've just bought one, if you made this post last month I might have bought it! Definitely a bad time to sell. Probably looking around the £7k mark based on when I last looked.

  13. At the minute it’s really difficult to know what it’s worth.

The one thing I would say is that it’s worth more to you, than anyone considering buying it, given the difficult sellers market at present.

  14. thanks for the replies guys, 7k is about what I was thinking too so its the ball park, looking on autotrader the cheapest bike with less than 10k miles and 2015 onwards is £7800, rest are in the 8k onwards so I'd like to think I could get £7k for it if I decide to advertise it.
regarding the wife and the wind etc, with the tiger she sat behind me whereas on the multi she's literally a head higher than me especially as I have the seat slightly lower too.
ive tried a bigger puig touring screen, made brackets and spaced it out and best ive actually found is using the puig sport screen.
she's still using a Peaked adventure helmet so need to change that and to be honest ive been going alot faster on the multi then the tiger as I'd be cruising around at 50-60 with her on but on the multi its way too easy to go alot faster as you guys probably know so she's being hit with higher speed winds so ive learnt to slow down a tad and she's found that a alot better lol, find putting it in urban mode really helps!!!!
will see what happens come spring time and how I feel, really enjoying the bike myself so sure she'll come round or like someone said maybe I'll have to change her:)

  15. Losing the peaked helmet will definitely help, OK if sat behind a good screen but very tiresome if not.

  16. You clearly need a second bike for pillion use ... Mutley for solo.

  18. hehe too many bikes as it is, part of me thinks I should have kept the tiger for the wife and not sold that or my fireblade either as that was my solo toy along with my enduro bikes.
fingers crossed the multi grows on her as its for me its got both almost fireblade performance but upright adventure comfort!

  19. Take her on a nice trip, keep off the autoroute and stay somewhere warm for a few days. Took my GF to Corsica a couple of years ago. We stayed in varying accommodation; converted milking parlour to chateaux, made stopping for a lunch at nice yet affordable restaurants a feature of each days riding. Some great scenery across France plus 4 days by the sea in Corsica swimming, walking and eating well. She's a convert to the Multi and touring and wants to do it again.
