Hi All Got pulled over by cops yesterday, they were obviously on a mission..." You have no tax I was told," " oh yes I do" I replied.. "Our system says you don't" they said, " well your system is wrong" I replied .. "as the new disc bought only yesterday is on my office desk!" After a while they changed tack and said "well why is it not displayed on your bike... " "Cause it would ether get nicked or fall off" I said... "We can fine you £70 for not having it on display" they said... " It's ok," I replied " I will bring it to the cop shop along with all my other legal documents.. " " No " they said "we can fine you for not having all your documents on you.. " " What ," I said, " so you want me to carry all my documents around now do you? " To which the officer replied, and get this ... " mind you I wouldnt carry it all around to be fair, to much hassle" So in other words it's one rule for you and another for me... Luvly... Thanks for that.
Photocopies of insurance & tax folded up in each set of bike gear, hardly a massive imposition, surely?
I suggested that... And was told photocopies are not acceptable, anyway I think you might be missing the point. The officer said that while he was fining me for not having all my documents on me, he personally wouldn't bother to carry his around... Why, because when he's asked where all his documents are ? He is able to show a police badge, my how handy that is... To the majority, the obvious fact is, that while I did have valid road tax, they were still determined to find something to fine me on... Obviously they were very unhappy at being proved wrong... Something to do with targets I guess.. Fined £70, basically for being legal... Fair? I think not ...
You are required to display a tax disc, you are not required to carry or show anything else. So, did you get fined for not displaying your tax disc, or not having all your documents? I think you coughed up too much info about not fitting it. Did you buy it online or post office?
When he discovered via the DVLA that I actually had a new disc purchased from the p/o and sitting on my desk at home it was as if he didn't like to be proven wrong.. When you think there's loads of idiots driving cars with no tax insurance and mots perhaps that's why I was getting annoyed... He fined me for not having all my documents to hand, even though I had my licence with me... Gave me my fine and then admitted how he wouldn't carry his around either... Don't think it helped by saying no but you can get away with that being a cop... But to be honest I didn't care anymore he was going to find something wasn't he?
I see it as him metering out a fine for not displaying, due to new evidence, rather than a bigger one for what he was initially lead to believe, a bike with no tax. You keep saying "Fined me for not having all my documents to hand" do you just mean the tax disc, or ins, licence & MOT? I think you failed his "Attitude test"
Ha yeah I did eventually fail his attitude test and boy he failed mine.. It was their on board box of tricks telling them I had no tax.. So next try was why is it not on your bike then? And after seeing my driving licence, with no points on he then asked to see mot and ins documents.... Which surprise surprise I didn't have on me... When he told me that was an offence I offered to either bring them to cop shop and in future photocopy them and carry them... No he said no actual documents here and now so I shall have to fine you...
Sorry.. But I beleive in standing up for what is right... I shall be appealing don't you worry.. If I've done wrong I'm the first to admitt it.. But this time I hadn't .. Justice for bikers...
Almost everytime. Being polite and not making a fuss always helped. Ive talked my way out of six points on more than one occasion  By the sounds of things he was just doing his job. Your bike didn't have tax therefore there was a good chance that it didn't have insurance either, or could have been nicked. Ive been stopped this way too. They checked the bike was mine, we had a little chuckle and off I went. Yeah, asking to carry all your documents sounds a bit daft to me
I agree with you nearly all the way there.. But, my bike was taxed.. Their system was either wrong or not upto date.. I just didn't like the way he went about it.. Most people would have said ok sorry we have got it wrong, off you go, but no he was determined to find a way of handing me a fine..
But if you had been displaying the tax disc, you wouldn't have been fined - it's a fairly straight-forward case!
And you'll be on a hiding to nothing because you hadn't displayed your tax disc. Good luck anyhow and you prove us all wrong
So are you being fined for not displaying your tax (on the near side of the vehicle in view) or for not carrying all your documents? As said not displaying your tax disc even if it is valid is an offence but I've never heard that all documents (V5, MOT and insurance) have to be carried on the vehicle/person. Were you stopped a traffic cop or an ordinary beat type?
There is no code on the list for "failure to display" only a code saying "no tax". The two offences are lumped together. Happened to me lately - disc was at home. Fine was £60, £30 if paid within fourteen days. You are wrong.
if youre being fined for not displaying your tax disc and that is whats on the ticket then unfortunately you have to suck it up and pay If however your being fined for not carrying all your documents as far as i'm aware you dont have to carry them hence why the producer was originally bought in so i'd think the appeal would find in your favor. he probarbly as you state wanted to inconvenience you because you'd embarrassed him and the system.... good luck i'd also mention what the officer said after the fine was given to you, might just show how unreasonable he was.
