If you believe that Held’s (pretty standard) design and construction and (pretty average) build quality with a lot of flash and good finishing will make a noticeable difference to the protection afforded by other quality race gloves at 1/3 to 1/2 that price, then everyone is free to make the choice and pay the price.
@duke63 Eek! I’m sorry to hear that. Was it a bike crash, and would better gloves have helped? Isn’t Held known for the high quality of its gloves? Mind you, £500 is a helluva lot of money for a pair of gloves, considering we can get CE Level 2 race gloves with kangaroo palms from Halvarssons for a fraction of that. Five’s latest RFX1 Evo gloves are also Level 2, yet maybe half the price of the Held XR2. The price of the XR2 gloves is likely influenced by the fact that Held made them in Europe, not in China.
It’s was 4 years ago now. Sort of a bike crash. Off road day with Yamaha and I caught by right handlebar on a metal gate post as I rode through. With hindsight it was probably the brake lever that went clean through the end of my little finger amputating it for me. TBH I have not really missed it. Would better gloves have saved it? Almost certainly I suspect, but off road gloves are just a bit cloth really.
I can laugh now but was effin painful at the time. Funniest thing was they bandaged my hand fully to slow the bloodflow complete with glove still in and took me to Aberystwyth A and E. I told the nurse who unravelled me that I didn’t want look as I knew it was a mess so she took the glove off with me looking the other way. A couple of minutes later she asked if I knew what happened to the end of my finger that got chopped off. I said I think you will find it’s still in the end of the glove you just removed.
Lindstrands Bergby you quoted £99 from J&S, I needed to replace my lost Handroids and these seem just the ticket. Thank-you for taking time to post a link eggy.
