I fancied a new exhaust for my monster. I thought I go Chinese. Well, that didn't work out. If nothing else I expected it to be made from stainless. Far from it, they made it from titanium. Crap. And the welding! Surely it's not asking to much to have Stevie Wonder MiG welding it together and have splatter all over it. Wrong again. All Tig welded and purged so you don't get nice ridges inside for turbulence. The silencers, where do I start. Carbon fibre instead of steel and aluminium. I mean if one wants carbon the bare minimum is for them to be stamped "for race use only". Wide off the mark again. They only put full E markings on them and give you 2 different dB killers so they don't actually wake up the neighbours. Shocking. As for the fitment. The OEM exhaust needs to be wrestled into position. We like a bit of tension here and there. Not this one. Just fits without the brackets groaning. We all know weight equals quality. No suprise that this piece of Chinese crap is less than half the weight of the standard exhaust. At least it was cheap so I didn't lose much money. About the same cost than half a termi termi slip on system. I can swallow that. Here are some pictures of my plight
I’ve had similar issues with Chinese crap, my biggest gripe is even after being fitted for years the parts haven’t failed.
And be rest assured your investment will help fund the callous, evil regime that violates human rights as the country reaches out for domination in global markets.
Yes a few years ago it was absolute shit now its better shit ! as my Dad always said you get what you pay for!
I know, I wish there was a way of avoiding the 20% VAT going to HMRC. At least we now have a government that has some regard for human rights unlike the last one. However, to suggest the UK is reaching for domination in global markets is going a bit far.
The Chinese have really up their game in recent years. About ten years ago, even ‘branded’ stuff made to spec was incredibly variable quality. There is still crap out there, but a hell of a lot of serious quality kit as well. Some of the machined parts we use at work are now sourced from China instead of Spain and quality is as good/ better. The bike pages on Facebook are full of people slagging off Chinese bikes, I wonder if they were slagging off Jap stuff in the late 60s? We all know how that ended. That exhaust looks proper nice.
The Ti pipes were £352 with a £65 discount they ran on Ali express over the Christmas period. Link pipes were £25 and the silencers came in at £70. That's all delivered including all taxes.
I got it all from Ali express. If you search Monster 696 titanium exhaust and monster 696 exhaust silencer you'll find it. The prices vary so it's good to keep an eye out for a bargain.
I got one from China for my 890R. Cost under £60 delivered. Excellent quality, fitted perfectly, sounded great. Gone are the days where you buy a full Termi system for £400-£600 including ecu. I mean, the new Panigale V2 is £2250 for the cans and a link pipe. Absolutely pathetic.
Completely agree. Mr Akra & Co have been and still are raking in vast amounts of money from a profit margin rarely achieved even by drug cartels!
I found in some cases it's being actually able to get what I want. I needed some teflon bearing band for making damper piston guides/seals. Found 2 suppliers in the UK. Both asked about £10 a metre with a minimum order of 50 and 100 metres respectively. Ali express...... £3 per metre delivered.
That takes me back about 25 years! I designed something that used that type of guide/bearing band. Used to buy it from a company called Ceetak - it was bloody expensive.
