748 Any Advice On This 748 'se'

  1. Looks nice I think. Might be a dealer commissioned “special”. Or just an enthusiast job. Later fairings on it are consistent with year as is frame colour. Front discs are not standard, top yoke not standard etc etc (most changes are obvious). It’s a BIP subframe, not a mono. Service history sounds a bit sparse which will give you good negotiation position. Belts are every two years on this for example.
    Good luck.

  2. Very over priced for what it is, IMO. As Expat Jack says, bit of a bitza and the green is reminiscent of the 998 Matrix. The second production run of the 748S with the nitride coated Showa forks was launched in 2000, the advert states it's a 2001 model, registered in 2002. By this date, I wouldn’t expect a UK bike to have been delivered with a KPH/Kilometre speedo although it was something common on the early bikes. Big red flag for me is the MoT history, there are 2 fails for reasons that don’t stack up with the low mileage. I’d be wanting a lot more history before considering making an offer of half the asking price. Andy

  3. Agreed - it was the 2008 MOT which made me want to try & do some digging on here. Appreciate some of the items would have been perishables but seems alot considering.

    Thanks for the reply

  4. Ferk, that’s overpriced

  5. there's something above that could do with clearing up for all time Andy, I believe that in 2002 Ducati sold a biposto or a mono, with a common frame/subframe that could be used for either. What I'm saying is that at no time has an owner necessarily adapted the bike for a mono seat. I believe this is the best way to look at it, I still have a 996S that is a genuine mono but also has the welded brackets on the subframe for a biposto. As I'm of an age where I question myself, I just did some research on this 748 (sold in 2022) that I believe to be a genuine, as it came from the showroom, 748.:upyeah:

  6. it is not, but doesn't matter for the point i am (trying to make) making. "parts bin" assembly has been around for over 60 years from my own experience, and manufacturers often choose to "make life simple" while saving the company money at times by using up old stock, despite it driving model expertise anoraks mad.
