I think I posted about this way back when the plastic water pump gears chewed up on my 1199, but I can’t find it! Last time I replaced with original plastic type, about 5 years on , not a lot of miles but quite a few track days I find the teeth again in the oil, so time to find the metal ones! They arrived today from Kamna in Germany and they look pretty good, if anyone is interested I will write on how to do this job, this is Panigale all range fault and recommend that all watch out for the yellow plastic teeth in the oil and note its not the miles it the heat transfer from the drive crank gear to the plastic idle gear that breaks the teeth.
Here is your previous thread farmind, hope you show the new metal gear. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/water-pump-gears-warning.54987/
My friend has just purchased these for his 1199r build and noticed them damaged on his 1299 also. I was going to replace mine on the 899 when I had the side cover off for the waterpump but I don’t do a lot of track stuff so the load isn’t silly on my engine
If you ever try to change these for RS items, be aware the teeth form is different to the road engine so they don't work
It's a straight forward like for like swap, just be prepared for the extra mechanical noise of the steel gears.
You are not wrong there, always think mine is about to die. Obviously the plastic gears were fitted to reduce the noise down for homologation, and not as the Internet would have it, as a soft link if the pump seizes
They are very nice but a lot heavier, thanks for the link! thanks for that, heres the new ones! 230 euros with DHL, lot heavier but I hope I finish that for good!
Kamna From Germany, supply them next day from stock. See above picture. https://www.ducati-kaemna.com/ Will photo as I reassemble, but will be at the end of the month, if you need any more info meantime let me know.
As my old Lecturer use to say, “cogs are for windmills, gear for engines”! The intermediate gear is held in by the cover, the washer acts a the thrust agains the cover, it has a bush behind and a needle roller bearing inside the gear. Yes located in the cover.
It is only the 899 & 1199 that uses the outer cover to hold the idle gear in place, the 959, 1299 & V2 uses a screw and does not locate into the cover (the actual gears are the same).
