On a 2020 monster 1200s, I'm thinking of taking off the seat lock to replace the plastic undertray. Can anyone shed some light on how to do this before I break it in frustration please.
Looks like pull the outer cable up and out of the holder, rotate the inner cable around to line up with the slotted bit, then undo the locking ring on the lock barrel and remove barrel. If it won’t go through the hole with the arm on it undo the two screws and remove the arm.
The locking ring has 4 recessed bits to it, wondering why and if a special tool is need or will it just go with grips and force? As it's plastic I was just reluctant to start fumbling and snap something. Are your thoughts from experience or just hypothetical?
Well I’ve removed a few seat locks over the years and they pretty much all follow the same design. There probably is a special Ducati tool to undo it but it won’t be tight as it’s plastic. Try to undo it with your fingers first then if not gently with some grips. edit: I’ve just checked the parts catalogue for you and it definitely just unscrews.
Some light pressure with your fingers will undo the locking ring or if it proves to be too tight to do so, use a cloth (to avoid marring the plastic) and some pliers to undo it Once you have loosened the locking ring, rotate the entire assembly to be able to unhook the cable from the actuating arm, and you should be able to pull it free from the undertray. Failing that, mark the position of the actuating arm on the barrel and remove it, by unscrewing the Philips head bolt, and then removing the Belville washer and spring. Lastly remove the locking ring and withdraw the entire barrel assembly.
