Now that summer appears to have deserted us just wondering what bike jackets people are wearing. I have a very old Dainese jacket which needs changing looked at the Ducati shield 13 looks good and feels good on but don't know if its worth the 500 odd quid. Any advise.
Just wear a Halvarssons wind & waterproof hoody over my leathers - works for me Can't get my head around wearing textile stuff - EDZ wind proof / shower proof top & leggings underneath as well
I've got Halvarssons odyssey jacket and some 1/2 textile, 1/2 leather goretex trousers. Both of them are proshell stuff, where the liner is bonded to the outer layer. The halvarssons jacket is great. Water just blows off of it. I use both summer and winter although in summer it can get a bit hot. If you are considering textile and 500 I would have a look at the halvarssons kit, it's very good
I ve got alpinestars tech goretex jacket, tech goretex trousers, alpinestars goretex smx boots and jet goretex gloves! really pleased with it all, was loads of money but is very warm, waterproof and really comfortable ! Over the years I have had various stuff , but in the end you pays yer money!
I'm same as 'doughnut' as have the Halvarssons textile/leather 2 piece for wet weather. Vents are very good but have the separate waterproof liners that I take out when it's warm. Also has a thermal 2 piece that zips in. Build quality is very good; i.e. leather on inside leg area/seat where wear is high. Totally waterproof when liners in. The range above has a nano outer shell so water runs off and does not make jacket heavy when wet. Cheaper than Rukka and just as good imho. Friend of mine has the top flight Rukka stuff and can't say I feel inferior!!!! Mines got the tfl coating as well. It all depends how much you want to spend.
I"m wearing a Hein Hericke Gore Tex jacket with a removable lining and back protector, mega comfortable, loads of free movement and cool this summer on hot days without the lining, however this morning when it was down to 10 degrees lovely and warm with the lining in and just a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. My preferred kit is a comfortable Gore Tex textile jacket and leather trousers, best of both worlds.
From what I've witnessed this summer, the mandatory outfit for the rider of an early '90's Fireblade (usually with a fat missus on the back in pink trackies)
No. not for £500. Laminated Goretex is the way to go. £500 will get you the Dainese Tundra or Gator Evo with change. They have far more technical features. Halvarssons is highly rated as is Klim in the adventure market.
Funny you should ask, but I've just been out today and purchased a Rev'it Sand 2 jacket (£300). Reviews are excellent and it certainly looks and feels like an excellent bit of kit. Can't wait to try it out. BTW. If you are after good reviews of biking kit I find the Revzilla site on YouTube is excellent.
Bought a two-piece of Hein Gericke OXAN2 just before they went bang. 'Twas a "Buy 2 get one free", so, as I was flush with funds then, I got a textile jacket and an Oxan jacket, plus the matching trousers were free! The Oxan stuff is supposed to be waterproof, too but I've never tested that - I'm a wuss and don't like getting wet on me bike - did enough of that when I were a lad. The textile jacket is great for late winter/early spring rides, as I can get my heated vest underneath. For proper summer wear I like my Scott one-piece but it is poor for pockets and I feel a right prat walking around off the bike.
Dainese Gator Evo jacket and pants, rode in some nasty weather and not a drop of water gets in. Jacket with thermal liner in with just a T shirt in the winter is warm as toast.
People go mad for Gortex pro-shell. Never seen the attraction myself as any external waterproofing comes with a compromise, and that's ventilation. If I am paying top $ for a suit then I want a four season one, not a boil in a bag three season, as summer and anything south of the English channel is torturous. Removable liners are OK, but a pain when you have to drop to your under crackers on the side of the road to insert. There is something to be said for a decent suit and throw over waterproofs, and the only combination that I find gives you total control currently. The only Pro-shell that has pricked my curiosity is the up and coming Rev'it Poseidon (in the UK in Oct/Nov). If that can do what it claims then I may be swayed as it appears to have ventilation nailed, though will wait for reviews. REV'IT! Poseidon Jacket Review at RevZilla.com - YouTube REV'IT! Moved away from Hein Gericke Gortex gear last year, found it takes too much looking after to keep waterproof, opted for Lindstrands Jacket & trousers, has lots of zip in layers and is warm and waterproof.
