It would appear that Betsy Arakawa died of a respiratory virus about a week before Gene Hackman died from heart disease; Hackman may have been unaware of his wife's death because his Alzheimer's disease was so advanced. No conclusion has been reached regarding the dog, but apparently they cannot be affected by the respiratory virus.

How bloody sad that two people so well known could lie there so long apparently not missed. :(

  2. Maybe the dog died of hunger. Or a broken heart. We’ll never know.

  3. Thats a really sad story.

  4. The dog was found in a cage in a closed wardrobe wasn't it? So prob died of thirst or hunger, poor bastard.

  5. If that is true, then I have no sympathy whatsoever for its owners.

  6. One owner had cognitive problems, and possibly the other too, so not straightforward. I've even seen it myself sadly, and on one occasion the result was putting down over a dozen blind/half blind cats after the elderly owner died.

  7. I think the wife died suddenly leaving the others who were dependant on her. Terribly sad for her husband and the dog, but not something to blame her for really...

  8. Yes, but to lock a dog in a cage, is disgraceful. Regardless, we’ll never all know the circumstances. Whatever happened, is tragic and truly saddening.

  9. The dog was recovering from an operation so was caged to separate it from the other 2 dogs

  10. Nothing wrong with putting a dog in a crate/cage.
