Hello everybody, A while ago i bought what i thought was a bottom yoke for a 2000 996sps. When putting it on the bike it turned out that the steering stem was a bit too long. Then bought a correct bottom yoke and problem solved. I want to sell the yoke i bought first but want to find out for which model it is. I took some photos and i hope someone can help me figuring this out. cheers
It is partnumber: 342.1.010.1a I already did and when i check on eBay or google it shows that all bottom yoke’s have the same number. Even came across 999’s that have this same number. Doesn’t matter if its 53 or 56mm. Mine is a 56mm to be clear. cheers
I have a 1999 996 SPS, are there differences across the years ? Happy to measure mine if you can show me what/where to measure
The 996 from 1999 does not have the öhlins. The bottom yoke is a 56mm, so for comparison it needs to be a 56mm yoke aswell cheers
Could’ve the stem been swapped out? It’s been modified/repaired as the steering stops aren’t original. If the bike was dropped, the stops used to get broken. The stems were also prone to bend, quite easily, and got replaced with salvage or after market stems. They weren’t painted black either. I think the stem from a 748E for instance was a bit longer, but that’s not a E lower yoke.. those lowers were seen as an upgrade for the lesser E’s, and allowed Ohlins to be put in iirc. There was lots of swapping around of parts back in the day, especially when the bikes were cheap and getting broken for salvage etc. Lots of things could have happened in 25 years
