Go And Get Your Psa Checked

  1. I feel this very worthy thread is going down a rabbit hole.

  2. I really need to make a GP appointment!

Either the universe is trying to tell me something or the ever present spying and social media algorithms are conspiring to make me paranoid because it seems like everywhere I look there’s something telling me to get my prostate checked!

I noticed after hitting 50 that I have been experiencing some of the early symptoms of an enlarged prostate but keep sticking my head in the sand because of all of the hassle of getting an appointment and then convincing the Dr to give me this oh so unreliable test.

I think spotting this thread is the sign to stop procrastinating!

  3. I just got a free PSA test from my GP without even having an appointment for one and no rubber gloves involved.
Well there were rubber gloves, but they remained fully in sight:D

  4. Usually the appointment will be with a nurse to take blood, no GP involved unless the results require further investigation. At 50 you might be due a 'well man' check over, so get the full works done on the sample.

  7. Good call - I am due a ‘well man’ check too - I tend to avoid all interaction with my GP practice because it’s so damned hard to get an appointment for anything but a Nurse might be easier as you suggest.

  8. This made me smile - I’m so bad at getting things like this done that I need that gentle nudge! :D

  9. If you're local to your surgery try popping in to make the appointment face to face with the receptionist. I get much better service this way and no long wait on the phone.

  10. This kind of story boils my blood - countless Billions thrown away during Covid ‘because you can’t put a price on life’ but then it seems they do indeed put a price on life all of the time……
But that’s different because they aren’t going on TV every night quoting those statistics…..

  11. Proof, as if it were even needed, that it all comes down to money. Not only that, but this shows how little money we are considered to be worth

  12. The disposable male....

  13. But the NHS doesn’t have an unlimited budget.

  14. The whole awkward question of who should be entitled to abiraterone from the extremely cash-strapped NHS goes back to 2012 and further. (reminds me of a Mrs Merton question)
The current price for abiterone tablets is approximately £2,930 for 120 tablets.

  15. Like it or not, being older means we are less of a priority.

  16. Maybe they should stop wasting money none woke BS and those that have paid f'all into the system.
Probably a topic for a different thread.

  17. I was waiting for someone to come up with the 'woke' word and wasting money.

I tell you what, you go and run the NHS but bear in mind there is NOT limitless money and you have to work to a budget set at the start of the year. And also bear in mind you have no idea what demand there will be on the system over the year. A flu bug, measles.......etc.. could wipe out much of your budget over night.

  18. Certainly agree with this bit ^ - it doesn't matter which party is in government, we are still a bunch of softies and not good at looking after our own/people who have "done their bit".

Apologies for off-topic - will leave it there.
