As3 Hoses 748….

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Mark996, Mar 18, 2025.

  1. Hi all,

anyone had any experience of using AS3 hoses (like samco but nearly a quarter of the price!) on a 748/916 engine??

AS3 don’t actually say that they do a kit for the 748, however they do for the ST2/4, 998 etc etc….

any suggestions of what kit to buy from them would be greatly appreciated.

  2. The AS3 web site states their hoses are not for road use or use on public roads. It would seem that it is a race part  Samco for me. Andy

  3. @cookster
I’ve used before and have today just fitted a set to my GSXR 1000. Bargain.

  4. I think they haven’t jumped through legislative hoops to get an e mark. But the quality is excellent. A hose is a hose in my book.

  5. Yep totally agree - read nothing but good reviews of them….so, can anyone suggest which kit would be good for a 748 engine?

  6. Whichever manufacturer you choose to buy from, have a good look at their terms and conditions and warranties. Samco specifically exclude the use of non glycol based coolant. AS3 does not specify anything about coolant but the relevant paragraph is open to interpretation because regulations for race bikes in the UK prohibit the use of any chemical coolant, they only permit demin water. Having had a dig through their web sites has been an eye opener to me. I still haven’t got to the bottom of why the OEM hoses are made from EPDM and aftermarket hoses tend to be from Silicon. The most significant difference appears to be simply the cost  Andy

  7. I've had as3 on my track gsxr for 3 years now, no problems to report.

  8. I have far too much time on my hands and end up getting down into the weeds :joy: Andy

  9. I was interested in Andy’s comments on Samco so took a look at their website and found the following, note RACING USE ONLY and warranty invalidation points:-

    5. For coolant hoses, when re-filling with coolant, ensure that the vehicle/bike manufacturer’s instructions for re-filling coolant are followed. Use an Ethylene-glycol based coolant. Please note, other coolants and additives may invalidate the warranty.

DISCLAIMER SamcoSport (Silflex Ltd UK) hoses, clamps and accessory products are intended for racing use only, for vehicles/bikes which are in the original manufacturer’s form, without modification.

  10. Ok, let’s ask this a different way - the S4R has a 996 engine right??
So, are the hoses on the 996 engine the same as those in a 748??

if so, then a S4R kit SHOULD do the job right?

  11. Check the 998 hose diagram too. That definitely shares many common hoses and now, having had a quick glance at the two diagrams above they appear at first glance to be different

  12. AFAIK, 748 will be the same as 916 & 996 but I don't think S4 or 998 will fit.

As for race-use only, longevity and coolant type - I've got Samco hoses on my 916, been on for maybe 20 years. Originally used the old style (blue) glycol coolant but switched to OAT (pink) some years back and had no bother with either, I'm pretty sure the 'race-use only' is just to cover their arse under some regulations in some countries or other.

  13. Another past AS3 user here on my 998S.
Zero problems but had to trim the hoses here and there slightly to get the fit perfect. Can’t go wrong at that price.
