Ktm Going Boobs Up ?

  1. I really don't know, but I guess if not, the engine will fail in less than 4 years, still be under warranty, so it won't matter? Which is why the warranty has been increased to give buyers confidence.

BTW, someone who I trust to know their stuff tells me the cams were not the issue, its an oil way problem.

  2. Yes , I've read oil way problem. Mate bought ktm790 after covid and so far so good, apart from screen cracked in first few weeks and ran like a pig without remap.

  3. As long as there's still a manufacturer to back up the warranty.

  4. Absolutely correct.

  5. They are insisting on dealer service at 600 miles, then AT LEAST one annual service, ktm can also be very hard on warranty claims

  6. Assuming they make it into the proverbial next round, without being swallowed by a rival -I think they will- I imagine they will probably be more convivial with their customers having come so close to no longer having any.

I also doubt KTM have introduced a longer warranty program to get themselves out of a mess, only to make it really difficult to claim. It would soon become known that the extended warranty is a bad joke and do far more harm.

  7. Normal run in service at 600 miles as per any other new bike and then mines (Gen 3 1290 Super Duke R) was done again at 3k miles. It's every year after that or 9200 miles.

  8. Yes, it’s annual after the mandatory 600 mile oil and wipe around. The point I have made (probably badly) is that they are insisting already on AT LEAST one annual service. It’s a complex issue but there is legislation for cars, now applying to bikes, states you can owner service if qualified by experience, using and keeping receipts/invoices for manufactures parts. However, the use of ktm diagnostics is a difficult issue to get around. One things for sure, if they honor a 4 year warranty the customer will pay through the nose for it during that period. You can probably tell I home service all my bikes. Why wouldn’t you if you could. Have done for over 50 years. Saves the apprentice getting your routine service job at the dealers. Also, the bike is not returned with marks/scratches loose fittings etc.
I dread it if any of my machines go back in after the first 600.

  9. The think I didn't like about ktm was friend had to pay extra for 'unlocking' extras. Like quick shifter and some power modes, he also had to change exhaust and get it remapped to run correctly. Think it was set up lean to beat emissions and ran like a pig from new.
The bike was very cheap to start with, but he'd probably been better off with T700/honda translap 750 from the off. I also find the KTM very ugly.

  10. I have nothing against KTM, and wish them success. I had 1290 - sold in July last year before the poo :poop: hit the fan. Anyway.

This 4 year Warranty seems like a good idea to try to sell bikes - a cheap promise that likely costs little or nothing upfront. It addresses quality concerns to try and help sell bikes. Fair enough really.

I suspect people really want deals and freebies :D

  11. That's just the same as any other bike manufacturer and not just applicable to KTM. My service was £300 odd quid which isn't a lot to maintain a full dealer service history for resale value and a warranty??
Ducati are the same price for their servicing unless it's over 5 years old.
I bought an OBDStar MS80 last year which has the ability to switch on the KTM extras like the quickshifter, heated grips etc and I wish I'd known that before I asked the dealer to install the Tech pack on mines. Would've paid for half the cost of the MS80.

  12. Or look at it from another viewpoint.

Someone wants a cheap bike without all the rider aids, he’s not paying for tech he doesn’t want or intend to use.

I bought my KTM 790 for £6850 in January 19 on a pre registered deal, tech pack unlocked.

Mine ran fine, only time I had issue with it was round town which I very rarely ride in.

I didn’t find the bike a looker but possibly one of the best bikes I’ve ridden.

  13. Neighbour had one prior to his Multistrada 950S and spoke equally highly of it.

  14. Apparently KTM's best year was 381K sold post Covid in '23. Who knows what they will ultimately achieve, and I expect over time most of it will be made in China & India.

All that said, they could hardly reopen, with the announcement "We're in debt up to the wazzoo, and may well go bust. But we hope you all believe in the tooth fairy and buy one of our bikes anyway" .

  15. 231k in a year… not forgetting the 100k they already have sat around in warehouses that are probably 6month old already.

will be interesting to see the tyres on the bikes as giveaways, the build dates will be a good indicator even though they are often a year old already anyway

  16. I expect the delivery time on new sales is short which would be a major plus for some.

  17. They will need to drop prices AND include the (unlock) packs to hit those numbers. I like optimism, but not silliness.

  18. KTM dealers do with deals include the tech pack, it was 450gbp when I bought my pre-registered 'demo' bike with zero miles on but the pack was included.

I think I read on the 790 forum that they're now 5995gbp on the road, which IMO is a peach of a deal

I can't comment on the other bikes in the range unless you count my GasGas which again i've had no issues with.

I kinda regret selling mine it was such a great bike and I had zero issues with it when I sold it to fund a Scrambler.

Quick enough for the roads I ride, maybe i'll return to one if my Son buys my GasGas...........
