Rear Concentric Hub Service.

  1. As above - i noticed last night the chain needed to be tightened up. Usually you grab hold of the guard that goes round the rear of the chain and move that.....not so this time - had to use a C Spaner and knock it round with a lump hammer.....ive never had the rear hub apart while its been in my possesion.

First of all im guessing it should move round easily
Second. Is it worth replacing bearings while im in there...ive got a shiny new bearing press so bearing changes are now easy...

And finally which should have been the first question - easy to dismantle...this is on my hyper by the way...

  2. Big no-no for the club hammer - should move easily using enough 'by hand' with the C-spanner! If you do the hub-bearing service/replacement you'll need huge circlip pliers (as per other posts).

  3. The eccentric hub should be free to rotate with the C-spanner after releasing the 2 bolts. Your experience is indicative of the eccentric hub needing removing and the swing arm mucked out. With the correct tools, replacing the bearings is a relatively simple job. The needle roller will figuratively drop out if you heat the hub. This then allows you to get the press on the double row, ball bearing which is more difficult. Andy

  5. As far as Ducati is concerned, the eccentric hub is not maintainable. Andy

  6. Just confirmed with Luke, the Hyper has a small rear hub so all the most recent bearing references are wrong. The disassembly process is the same though. I’m sure I have the instructions printed off somewhere, I’ll see what I can find. Andy

  7. Thats great - thanks so much - i think my circlip pliers will do those....

Looking at that pdf and just to confirm that end parts list is what i need (should i order o-rings as well as new bearing covers...?)

  8. I’d certainly replace the ‘O’ rings and probably the big washers. Compared to the price of the bearings, they are coppers. Andy

  9. Ill phone riders Bristol and see if theyve got anything.....
Im a little bit lost on the bearings....so theres one big bearing and 2 roller bearings or 1 roller bearing...and the dust covers im gonna have to lever those out so probably going to need those as well...ducati only or generic..?

  10. You’ll not get bearings from a Ducati dealer, it’ll have to be internet or Rubix (Brammers/Buck & Hickman) if you have one local. There is one needle roller bearing and a double race ball bearing. The double race is one piece and very expensive and most commonly replaced by two single race bearings, the SKF in #8. The needle bearing seal is a service item which you should be able to get from Riders and should be less than a tenner. Andy

  11. ok got the washers, orings and seal on order....next friday for delivery (its not pressing so it can wait) i see what you all mean now...they class the whole concentric thing as one part (with the bearings inside)

  12. At the bottom of the pdf are these 2 bearings...
    Ball bearing SKF BAH-0063
    Needle Roller Bearing Torrington NK42/30A
Are those the right ones for mine?

    Whats the difference between
Machined needle roller bearings NK42/30 - INA or NKE ? and do i need 1 or 2?

  13. The ball bearing, SKF BAH-0063 is a one piece, double roller bearing that was fitted originally, https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p...al-Wheel-Bearing-51x72x24mm/product_info.html. The ball bearing SKF 6007-2RS1, https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/a...arch_in_description=1&keywords=SKF 6007-2RS1&, is a single ball bearing so you would need 2. Needle roller, https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p...r-Bearing-3/8x9/16x3/8-inch/product_info.html, you only need 1. Andy

  14. Fuck me....this is shaping up to be an expensive job...so we're looking at about 400 quid for 3 fucking bearings!

  15. Maybe best to remove the hub, clean it up then check the bearings as they could be ok. Especially as your only issue right now is a cruddy eccentric that needs a cleanup...

  16. yep - exactly my thought - ill do that first....ive got the orings and washers on order so i can replace those no matter what....even if the bearings are worn....ill have a lesson on stripping it first then buy the bearings one at a time....thanks to everyone for the information.

  17. This will be my winter project for my Multistrada (I did the desmo service this winter). Collating info from all threads…

  18. Two of the single race ball bearings and the needle bearing in my links adds up to about £50. It’s the OE double race bearing which you don’t need, that costs a lot. Andy
