Did two ‘coast to coast’ rides. Pacific Ocean via Austin TX MotoGP to Lake Ontario on Dakar 650 in 2018 and again on ST4(s) via Flagstaff and Hannibal, MO in 2021. About to do it again on MTS GT via Vancouver Island…
Vancouver Island ( and Whistler) to Los Angeles or San Diego would be the only ride I would do in the US. I might do a ride around the north east .. it’s really beautiful there in the fall. I did have lots of fun riding through the Rockies, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana but everything is spread out …but so beautiful!
Just got back from a few days on Vancouver Island myself, a bit wet on the Pacific Rim night now. BC is such a beautiful place
I live in Hamilton, Ontario. But I will be in Seven Persons by the 7th of June or someone is going to be annoyed, me included.
Oh wow, long ride back then. What’s that like, mostly Highway or are there interesting routes to take? I moved to Vancouver last summer so the idea of heading out East is enticing
Vancouver is one of my favorite cities. I used to go to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club to race sailboats several times a year. Great place and wonderful Canadians!
The Longest Ride. From Santa Fe to Monument Valley is around 350 miles. We were trying to get ahead of the next front of lousy weather that was heading our way. The morning’s ride was one of the best yet, up into the mountains north west of Santa Fe. This was at the gas station, unbelievably it was a runner. Held together with Gaffer Tape. It was cold, really cold and around midday we had to stop for a coffee. We pulled into a tiny little shack and I were really welcoming , they wanted to know where we’ve been and where we were going etc. Jorg got into a conversation with the old people at the next table and asked; “Is it true what I’ve been told, that every other person has a gun in areas like this”? The woman at the next table looked slightly embarrassed, I could see it coming and she replied; “No, everybody has a gun”. We all laughed. He then moved on to ask about Trump. It’s been a constant interesting quest. The jury seems to be out the general consensus seems to be ‘all is forgiven if he gets the economy going’. When we left the woman that ran the café/restaurant wouldn’t accept any payment, saying; “You’re visitors, you’re our guests, it’s on us, no problem”. How good is that? It wouldn’t happen in a city. It was a fabulous ride down towards Kayenta where the road flattened out and we ran into a sand storm. It looked like an eerie orange fog. The sand was painful if it hit any part of your face, we pulled up our buffs to get as much coverage as possible. When we got to Kayenta, my satnav took me to the wrong place again despite having input the right road and number but we eventually found the hotel. We concluded that over 350 miles is too far on a bike in one day. I prefer around 250 miles. We’ve done various 350 mile legs, but it’s just not as pleasurable. No sand in this pic but there was plenty of it.
Trying to do catch up with this. Riding all day and writing this is a challenge. I think of things to write in the day then forget it all when I come to write it, which seems to take place at night. Sleep deprivation but I’ve slept well the last couple of nights hence getting behind with the updates. It’s been eventful.
