my 749 is drinking petrol like water, i'm getting around 56 miles per tank of petrol obviously way wrong, im not riding it too hard, had new sparks with the correct gap, no exhaust leaks, air filters clean and TPS been reset, no leaks, no petrol smell so im stumped. I'm gonna check the plugs in a bit to see if theyre not the right colour. Is there anyway to remedy this cheaply (made redundant last week) and how do i do it? I have ducatidiag if needed and leads. cheers in advance. Chris
If it was running stupid rich I would have thought it would be backfiring like mad on downchanges as unburnt fuel ignites. Dies the bike ride normal? If so I would try giving it a shot of redex and a fresh tank of juice from empty.
no the neighbour aint even got a car lol and the bikes garaged lmao no backfiring thats the thing, all seems ok with ducatidiag... the tank light has come on and i will run it nearly dry and put some redex in to see how it goes! well aslong as the weathers ok lol. these are screen shots of my diag readings.
no its not really empty, it maybe the light But from a full tank to where it is when the light comes on, its still drinking it
looking at lamda its bang in the midle for what youd expect from a car. so not running rich if i am reading that right
emission machine. looking at results you can determine whether running ritch or misfire or worn engine.
How many tanks of fuel have you gone through quickly? If its running normally its not rich running to the point of 50 miles to a tank as im sure you would really know about it as it wouldnt run correctly.
Should be around 15 quid of super. Sometimes I only get 80 miles to a tank but normally 100 before the light comes on. Same sort of riding as I normally go to the same places but thats a 20% difference. If I was getting 57 I would be wondering why also.
Check the temp sensor for the ECU, it may think the engine is cold and richen the mixture for cold running.
had the bike for a while, its done it for a bit but noticed its got worse lately, how can i check the temp sensor NZDave?
50+ to the tank beggars belief and would manifest as almost unrideable if the fuel was being injected into the cylinders. I know you have said there are no excessive fuel smells but have you checked you feed/return lines to the pump through the tank flange (under the rear of the tank) There are two tiny 'O' rings that seal the connectors... Are these in good shape ? They may only leak when the lines are pressurised so would not necessarily leak when the bike is stored in the garage ... Have you checked the tank breather tubes ?
