my clutch switch on my 2003 ds isn't working, even hotwiring it at the connectors behind the headlight won't do the trick. i've looked at the wiring diagram but i'm a bit confused. it seems like, according to the wiring diagram, there should be a wire going to the starter and one to the display unit. but i don't see any cable going to the starter... how can i go about diagnosing this issue? seems like a common issue with this bike
can you post the wiring diag up? seems strange it would go straight to the starter. or even the starter solenoid. more likely a relay first.
so on page 512 number 36 "clutch" following it one wire seems to go to the starter and one to the instrument panel? am i missing something?
arrrgggg there's a kill switch wired in to that starter solenoid wiring. maybe i'm the wrong guy. (long story) and a 20a fuse. is the bike starting in neutral?
i would be looking at junction 49. heading out shortly, i will take a deeper dive later if not resolved
yep starts in neutral. when i got the bike 5 months ago the issue was already there, only got around to checking it now i believe 49 is the connector that sits behind the headlight, already checked that. next thing would be to check if there is continuity between that and the instrument panel, i believe... The only thing that's not clear to me is where that connector sits (see picture) and where it connects to the starter. maybe i'm misreading the diagram, but from what i see, there should be a connector where the black wire connects, and then from the connector it goes into the starter. but i don't see anything going into the starter other than the main cable. will probably have time to take things apart further next week... in the meantime, i'm open to suggestions... thanks!
the starter solenoid, where the starter lead goes and if it's the same as my 1100 is up by the battery next to the ecu. trace the wiring back from there.
Sounds good! The picture seems clear, except why that one wire goes to the instrument panel... Sure hope the issue doesn't have something to do with the instrument panel.... will get back once i've checked that all the wiring is good. thx for the help.
aye, it would be nice to see the wiring diag for the instrument panel. it does look like there's a possibility the dash may be involved in switching and providing earths for the starter solenoid circuit. which does sound a lil dumb when you say it out loud but unfortunately the Manuals lib.com is obscuring a crucial part of the diag. it also looks like your tail/brake light unit could interfere with it too. chortle. the crazy of things i've seen when a bulb is shorting/fitted incorrectly. back to basics i guess and stuff you may have done already. 12v+ at and going from your clutch switch? have you pulled the connection at the dash?
