  1. I haven’t ever had a service book with either of my Vito vans, it isn’t unusual not to have it.

My service history would need to be lifted from my service dealer as I’ve only ever used MB for servicing.

  2. looks more like it. you would deffo pay more for that up here. not having a service book is normal these days. it's all done online via the manufacturers portal.

  3. You seem keen on a Vito. We had a rwd long wheelbase 111 vito a long time ago as a WAV . It seemed to eat rear springs (snapped coils) , arb droplinks and shocks didn’t last that long either given it didn’t do a high mileage and was only used to carry a power wheelchair. It also rusted badly in the weirdest spots . The other feature is the rear door height is not that tall if you’re planning on loading motorbikes into it. I once picked up a 86 GSXr750 in it (only time it was abused) and had to take the fairing cowl /screen off to get it in via the rear up a ramp, which surprised me & was a bit of a pain at the time.

  4. We have run Vito’s at work, our mechanical engineers use them and they are always at full carrying capacity. No real issues with any of them. We have run them for 20 years.
I’ve had Caddy’s since 2010. Great vans but they’re so expensive now, as is the T6. (New Transporter is a Transit/vauxhall) looks crap.
The Vito does have that odd foot/parking brake which is easy to forget.

  5. snooze you lose as they say. the van sold within 24 hours. i couldnt get there quick enough.

  6. My 996 was delivered to me in a Vito, personally, I prefer the transporter, I have a T5.1 LWB, with a full T6 front end conversion, sports bikes fit in no problems, can comfortably fit 2 in there, my Versys 650 however, I have to remove the screen and mirrors

  7. There’s no way my Mrs will tolerate a bench seat in the front. It has to be reclining or no deal… :D I love my Vito and for any mile munching journey it’s the go to choice. It’s very comfortable and drives like a car…

If you go for a panel van (bulkhead, no side windows) T- junctions and reversing can be a pita. Side windows come in very handy when looking over your shoulder.

  8. The Transporter can have a bench passenger seat, or a single passenger seat, i have opted to keep the bench for family reasons

When my youngest son moves out, I may swap the bench for a single

Agree with you on the side windows, they are great for visibility in tight areas

  9. I have a Vito, it’s 18 years old now (‘07). It’s a 111CDI and has done a little over 270,000km. Apart from a rebuilt turbo, 2 new front brake calipers, 2 x replaced prop shaft sections because the UJ wore out and a few tie rod/suspension bushes, it’s actually been very reliable. However, it does have a very low access height as has been mentioned, so do check you’ll get in what you want to. iirc anything over 1200mm is a no no. For that reason, and that alone, it will sold later this year and replaced with a Crafter or Sprinter.

Oh, it’s also held together with staples :joy:

  10. thing is i dont really want to get into the whole vdub thing and my max budget is 10k
ideally its german so that limits me somewhat in terms of brands
the headroom in the vito is tricky but to take 1 bike to/from a TD and maybe across europe it seems to fit the bill in a stealth kinda way?

  13. The bench seat in a Vito is a joke as the third passenger hasn’t enough leg room as the gear stick protrudes out too far from the dash.

  14. First pic i found with 2 bikes in the back :joy:

  15. so the van sold within a day of listing. went for 9k to someone more local than me. i would have paid more. ive been looking for ages and they never come up privately in that spec which was just what i wanted
i couldnt bring myself to put a deposit on it sight unseen but i should have gone for it

  16. I had a Vito before I purchased this Transit Custom (which is an "Ex-Police Van") at auction.
The Vito was excellent and I only had a couple minor electrical issues over the years.
The Vito's drive very well the only thing I didn't get on with was the ridiculous handbrake.

I can recommend taking both a Vito & a Transit Custom for a test drive to see which best suits your needs.
The Custom is an excellent machine, but you should factor in the cost of a cambelt change at about 80,000 miles (approx £1,000)!

Loading the bikes into a semi hightop is a delight!

    Happy shopping!

  17. [
Semi high top. As with all configurations there are pros and cons. Trips to the dump (there’s a height restriction gantry at my local), multi story car parks, Le Tunnel, ferries etc… just things to consider.

I had a KTM SDR which is actually quite a tall bike. It went in my Vito no bother but I’d have to whip the mirrors off. My V4S track bike- easy, no bother at all. I could get 2 in.
