F1 sky or bbc ?

  1. Simple question?
I am a diagnosed petrol head for which I know no cure.
I prefer Eurosport for GP but will happily watch bbc coverage live and rewatch on Eurosport if the race warrants it.

So anyway given I rate coulthard and brundle the dilemma is which one? (I can't justify "wasting" even more of my life watching the f1 twice!)

  2. Coulthard and Brundle together were brilliant.
On balance I prefer the BBC coverage, sorely miss Brundle though. However the edited/highlights races on the BBC are crap.
I would never pay for SKY (tabloid tv). The F1 channel is a triumph of presentation over content, at the end of the day it is just a car race.

Maldonado and Schumacher showing their true colours again.

  3. I despise Sky, Murdoch, The Scum and even the Sunday Times is on my "do not entertain at any costs" list. We (collectively as a nation) are said to be a nation of Scum readers and therefore by default we vote accordingly. I'm going to stop now before I get really bloody angry.

  4. Or you could just try watching paint dry in the comfort of your own spare room and do the commentary yourself

  5. :upyeah:
    BBC for me then.
    Steve

  6. I wanted the HD Channels its bundled so no brainer.
Just wondering what they will do when they stop charging for HD content?

  7. F1 3D channel.

  8. I also hate giving Sky and the Aussie geezer any of my hard earned! However, as a life long F1 fan, and having watched the BBC for more years than I can remember, the Sky coverage is far, far, far better than anything the Beeb have ever done. Sorry, but as much as I hate to admit it, it's true. I'll never go back to BBC F1 coverage.

  9. Sky coverage is a bit poor in comparison to BBC imo. I hate the Anthony Davidson touch screen TV bit. Winds me up like it did Andy Townsends bit on ITVs footy coverage. Although, Georgie Thompson soothes my ill feeling quite a bit

  10. At the end of the day both channels broadcast the same race no? So why pay to Sky? By getting sky you are getting the nation more and more in to a corner. Look this year BBC did not have enough cash to broadcast all races live. More cash Sky gets more people will have to buy sky to watch races they want. After F1 they will get other races and rebrand F1 channel to race channel. Next bike racing ....

  11. I get sky because we have no terrestrial signal where I live. It's that or nothing.

Jury obviously out in f1 coverage though.

  12. Thing is Luca,

As much as I hate to admit it Sky is the only real option for viewing sport, the Beeb just want to beat their chest and tell us what events they're broadcasting but to be quite Frank and honest the coverage is at best poor.

Take the GP....yeah we'll give the public free coverage of GP said the BBC, but what's this Moto 2 and 3 stuff??? Oh no we don't want that....they're the best races these days.

They stopped eurosport from showing live MotoGp so they could state they had exclusive live coverage, your lucky if the BBC 2 coverage lasts till parc ferme let alone the podium or press conference. Press your red button now to go to MotoGP extra.

Only to sit and watch a static image for 5 mins till they start to broadcast on the interactive thing.

That's just one example.....there is many more sports that suffer the same.

Itv's coverage isn't too much better either.....try the TT coverage next week! Better than no coverage, indeed, but far from great.

Unfortunately you pays your money and takes yer chances.....oh did I say the Beebs free coverage of GP, well almost free, if you forget the scandal they call a tv licience!

  13. Trouble is Anth, with sky they bid for a sport and then pass the cost on to the customer, BBC have a budget to work to and can't increase your subs.
    I hate sky .

  14. Also compare the monthly cost. TV licence when freeview came became great value for money.

  15. When it was announced that F1 was going to Sky & only half of the races would be live on BBC I said that I wasn't going to pay the extra £10:00 per Month for Sky HD. Already having the basic Sky package for BSB, WSB & MotoGP on eurosport they were offering a deal which meant it would only cost £70 for 12 Months so decided to give it a go.

I have to say that the Sky coverage is excellent with all sessions shown live along with a weekly Friday night F1 show along with the driver & team principle's press conferences. The presenters (a lot of ex BBC) are very good. For me I'm pleased I went for it but did watch the 1st BBC coverage but have not seen any since.

  16. Yeah, don't get me wrong I'm far from a fan of Sky, almost to a similar extent as you, but not quite.

It's just the way it is these days and I can't see anyway to return to the way things were before premium channels. I'm a sports fan in general, and sport in itself doesn't truly exist anymore, it's just a big business, which is, the key to the door for Sky, as they can and will oil the wheels of the profiteering "sportsmen and clubs, teams etc.."

The cost thats passed on to the customer is extortionate, I agree....but its optional, you can choose, can I opt not to pay the tv licience that funds the BBC's poor coverage? Erm that'll be a no.

  17. Thing is you could get a satellite tv from US which would be cheaper. Sky tried to block that before last big football thing. Many pubs took out German paid TV as their licence was much lower yet they showed all the games via eurosport and by press of red button it was in english. There is choice, choose not to take sky.

  18. It is an age old argument but never less it is true without the BBC all our programs would be continually interrupted by adverts, let the BBC advertise and be able to compete on a level playing field and then se how much your viewing would cost.

  19. I accept there is a choice and it is my choice, I chose to pay to get great coverage of all things sport ( choice 1).....at a cost I know

My sky channels come via my cable provider, without the need for a hideous dust bin lid stuck to the front of my house....(Choice 2)

Would I choose to have cheaper coverage if it was a viable option....of course I would, if one were available....paying the Germans isn't one for me, I'm sorry. I'm also well versed in starview, eurovox, card sharing etc but the bottom line is I work hard, earns my money and takes my choices. :upyeah:
