As the 900's have a temp gauge on them, can these be retro fitted to the 750's. I take it that it will indicate oil temp? I like to know what a engine is doing when I'm riding(if I ever get that far before Al says anything)
Yep it can be done, there are several different methods of attaching the sensor, I have seen them in the oil cooler, also drilled through the engine casing filter head? I have looked at it for mine but the extra expense and nause of fitting one, not worth it for me.
Best place is where the oil light pressure switch is fitted.....easy enough to get a T-piece to take both the wire and the sensor. AL
Not the best place In order to get a good measurement of the oil temperature it is necessary to have the oil flowing over the sensor, the oil pressure switch is a dead end with no flow, the sensor will be reading the temperature of what it is mounted too. Ducati fit a sensor into the oil screen plug where it is totally immersed, and will give an accurate measurement
Probably right, but I can tell you the switch is pretty bloody hot if you take it out when the engone has been running..... Never had a problem with T-Pieces for the two gauges on cars though.........maybe the oilways were different. I personally wouldn't use a T piece unless it was a very short one.......vibration and breakage spring to mind. Neither would I be that bothered about fitting an oil temperature gauge........Never had one on bikes before and if it did fit something, it would probably be an oil pressure gauge instead........but you can of course get a dual gauge for temp and pressure which as far as I know uses the same sensor. AL
the oil screen is only about twenty quid or so and the temp sensor isn't expensive - its just a spade connector that goes onto it anyway. Oh and as Al says, its pretty much bugger all use other than to make you paranoid on our carby SS anyways
