You could be had up under the trades descriptions act...the correct title should be, 'Stoner's bike more popular than Stoner'. HTH:wink:

I'm Joking again, but seriously, both these guys and Honda, Ducati, Yamaha sell a lot more outside real Motorcycles than you might think ... I cant even begin to imagine Rossi's sales, most of the real world are just starting to catch up on how good he was/is.

Its all about merchandise and after sales as well as the real machinery road bike sales now ... once you are a legend of course.

Take a look at the Tamiya range of 1/12 precision motorcycle kits, their range focuses on legends for their GP series, Stoner has two bike kits I think, But Rossi has far more.

And if you look at pre built 1/12 Metal die cast Mini Champs replicas, then even Rossi is king again, every second 1/12 minichamp llisting on ebay is a Rossi one, look at the clothing stuff too, same again.

Have you made all those or do you just admire them in their boxes waiting for retirement?

I do build them though and plan to build them all and am currently building three Tamiya 1/6 scale (those are 1/12 scale bikes in my pic) of their Kawasaki Z1300, GSX1100S Katana, CB1100R and looking to get their XS1100 Midnight special in this scale too for one from each factory for retro bikes ... a joy to build I tell ya 1/6 scale is just 6 times smaller than the real thing and in this scale go together like the real thing construction wise ... I used to own a real 1/1 Suzuki GSX1000S Katana.



Some pics of my completed builds, cant get this to show the right way up? if I rotate it 90 degrees before sending to photo bucket it twists it round again, if I leave it sideways it turns it 90 degrees too ... I'll pay more attention to my model photography in future



I'll pull the bikes put of the display cabinet for closer pics if anyone's interested.

EDIT: looking through my PB album found a pic of my 1/12 Hayabusa, this one was finished with spray cans and I'm using a very nice airbrush and compressor combo now for better results.



EDIT 2 : found a pic of my Yam M1 that is in the stash first pic with some extra's I've bought for it, this one will be Melandris Spiderman M1 and will look (I hope) like the real thing below my pic of contents.



I've added a couple of more extra's for this project since that pic including Zero matched paints from Hiroboy.

It gets worse, I build large scale 1/32 Aircraft kits too, last pic i took was this ... added many more since then,



Later additions, always wanted to build the big 1/350 carrier too.

Heh, and there those exists in the scale model community who argue the shade of black and white.

I'm not joking ... if you take up the hobby build for yourself.

Some of our scale model Prima Donnas will put our racing enthusiast knowledge to the test.

 

I've still got a 916 and a 900SS in their boxes. Only had them 10 years and it would be fun to make them. If I didn't have the garden, bike, guitar, writing, cooking, swimming, reading etc etc to do first.

So, when I retire then. Maybe.

 

Its a good retirement hobby

 

Just finished two of my Bike kits last week, Katana's no less

Used to own the real thing.

1/6 and 1/12 scale models, 1/6 really means the real thing is just 6 times bigger or 6 times smaller, it even has working front suspension and rear shock too that you need to construct ... I'm working on Tamiya 1/6 Kawasaki Z1300 in the background.

 

I have them same katana kits, my da had one
and I always loved the look of them, even my pet
dog was called Katana lol

 

The Katana was my dream bike til I got hold of one. A grey import minter with 4000km on the clock; I remember the disappointment that drained through me on the ride home. I thought it was going to be awesome but it was heavy, slow, and didn't handle. One of the few bikes I've bought that I don't miss at all.

 

Yep, you mentioned this before.

I guess you have high expectations of old classics?

But in defence of the big Kat's, they were unbeatable in their day, it was not until 84 I think it was? that the top proddy riders switched to GPz900R's as proddy bike of choice ... even then the best riders still riding Kats could still beat the good guys on Kawa 900's, but the then new GPz900R was a clear leap forward in just about everything in its first year.

One of my friends bought a new Kawa 900R and we were testing at Knockhill on the same day .. i realised immediately after riding it it was a massive leap forward over my Kat, but that's true of all new road bikes and race bikes .. evolution is a truly great thing.

I went on to own an early Suzuki GSXR 750 and raced it too, but it was evident the tool of the day was no longer Kawasaki.

My memories stay with the Suzuki Katana though, was in the prime of my life when i owned it and this bike more than made my summers/races and Sunday rides.

For sure it was a massive evolution over the previous GS1000's and GSX1100E's I rode too ... as a matter of fact, a Suzuki GSX1000S Kat ( not 1100 ) was the first road bike to crack an average 100MPH lap at the old Silverstone circuit.

Sounds like you had bad luck with yours, not all Bikes are for everyone, it was the definitive experience for me though ... I'd not have made a user name after a bike or built scale models of it if i never thought so

I get angry and end up with a gluey, badly painted mess lol I just buy the ready made ones
