Mugello - 13-16 Sept

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Dave, Sep 13, 2013.

  1. Shared a hire car with Papa Louigi and the rest of our group from the airport. Arrived at the hotel last night at 8ish and signed on. We had an excellent steak at the restaurant next door :)

Couple of bits of bad news - thunder storms predicted for Sunday and apparently we are sharing the track with another track day operator and 100+ Italian riders. We'll just have to see how it goes!

I hope my bike will start ok. The tracker texted me two or three 'low battery' warnings earlier in the week and then nothing - I bet it is as flat as a pancake. Hopefully the battery conditioner will revive it!

  4. A few Lougi bikes there then

  5. I take it this the FE Event.........didn't you have to disconnect the battery before being shipped?.....100+ Italian riders....EEK!!......just have to be brave into the corners...most are wannabe Rossi's (ain't we all...LOL) I've been at Monza / Imola on car days with italians and Swiss and like I said they're all mad as fook.....surprised you you weren't told this before you booked but there again it is FE so not surprised really.......hope you have a great time and the weather keeps good for you.......please keep us posted to how the event unfolds I'd be interested to hear

  6. You have to remove the tank & seat unit to access the battery on a D16 so I did the next best thing and removed the fuse from the solenoid (a lot of people evidently just left the battery connected). I think the 'low battery' warning is for the tracker's own backup battery. The bike started first time.

The Italians aren't a problem at all. The standard of riding is generally good. Just one red flag so far. One of our group had a little off in the gravel at Scarperia but he and the bike are OK after a bit of attention from Papa Louigi.

  7. Glad the weathers keeping up for you......I'm guessing it's sessioned....how many to a sessions and how many bikes do you think there are to a session? oh just one other Q......how long was it were you without the bike from drop off to pick up at the track? Sorry Dave for the spanish (Italian) inquisition.....post up as many pictures as you can....(if you can be bothered...LOL).....Love to see them of Track and hotel Etc........oh gotta get a session with Chilli......especially if it's raining I've heard he's good in the rain well according to Eddie Lawson anyways....LOL

  8. 4 sessions of 20 mins each. The local Italians mainly in Group 4. Each group is 50-60 riders. Plenty of space on track though.

I was without my bike for a week, but I dropped mine later than everyone else as I couldn't make the official drop which was nearly two weeks in advance I think.

  9. You know the rules...Pictures or it never happened

  10. I know that man...:upyeah:

  11. what hotel are you staying at... still have to book mine for october.. :)

  12. Crikey.......so in reality you could be without yer bike for a month....2 weeks out 2 weeks back......I reckon the way I'll do things next year will be pay for Track time only and rent a LWB High top van (with A/C :) )and Drive to italy / Spain or whereever shouldn't take more than a day to get there splitting the driving and costs with a mate or 2 pre book hotel job done......thats it, that's what I'll be doing
be interesting to know what the italians paid and who there TDO was?

  13. that's why i got a LWB Van instead of a trailer... but better do your calculations before you put 2000 miles on a hire van and drive it up and down... its not cheap...

  14. Not 4 weeks. Eg drop on 7th, our wend of 14th, pick up 21st normally 3 weeks in all. If you use as a commuter sure its a pain but if its a leisure bike, in the winter, where's the biggie? :upyeah:

  15. 3 to 4 weeks before you know it ain't coming back LOL.......that and the fact I couldn't bring myself to leave my PJ with someone who I don't know regardless.......they won't be giving my bike the same care and attention that I would.......mate of mine had his bike damaged on one trip

  16. Luckily for me a mate owns a van hire company no excess on mileage....LOL

  17. Its packed in a crate, by you, not stuck on a van on its side stand ;-) lol

  18. No Limits use stillage crates but FE don't. They use their own lorries and load them for you strapping them down on side stands. I bubble wrapped mine. All was fine and bike and gear were waiting for me in the garage when I arrived at track this morning. All in all less fraught than No Limits making you unload your own bike on the first morning and load it all up again at the end of the trip.

  19. That is correct. Three weeks, or in my case two as I made a special arrangement with FE. They have been very helpful.

  20. Ffs really?! I take it back and now know never to use FE. Thanks.
