Call me a sentimental old sod...

  1. That really is a fine looking motorcycle.

To be honest I wouldn't consider one for that very reason. But I meet a lot of Enfield riders as there's a dealer near me, and they are all to a man happy as Larry with their bikes. Perhaps it's us who have got it wrong..?

  2. Its a hike for cruising across chelsea bridge or to brighton sea front, not for blatting the local lanes

  3. I also think it's a fine looking motorcycle.
R.E have listened to the potential buyers and are very in touch with what they want. Shame the European market isn't doing the same!

I predict this is going to sell like hotcakes in India, which on it's own will be a success for R.E . The 29BHP is more than enough power when riding in India, but as Pete mentioned it's really not enough for our needs.

  4. I dare say. To be honest I'd be more tempted to buy one of these than a Triumph Thruxton. Both are underpowered in my book, but at least the Enfield has an excuse. It seems more honest, somehow.

  5. Gotta love ipad typing...ffs

  6. Sometimes I wonder. I overtook a gsxr1000 on the M4 last year in a van restricted to 68mph...

  7. It's a lovely looking bike but when I finally sort my act out and buy a cafe racer it'll be a Triton Bonneville and if I can find a decent one it'll have a pre-unit engine in it. It'll be ok because I can liberate a couple of spill kits from work so the oil won't fuck up my garage floor.

  8. The vibration'll fuck up your teeth though. People forget that about 'classics'.

  9. Belstaffs, piss pot helmet, stadium goggles, it's all a bit born again rocker for me.

  10. Gotta be better than Easy Rider though, eh..?

  11. Love the idea of a bellstaff wax jacket, open face lid, big old buckle boots and jeans...I got the jeans and boots...

  12. Yeah, go out and buy an open-face lid Bradders. I did, got a mile up the road, hit straight in the mush by a bloody great bumble bee, then rode straight home to get the full-face lid with a bruised conk. Some things are best left in the past.

Mind you, I think full-face lids have played a major part in the alienisation of bikers by making us seem less approachable...I'm soft and cuddly really, but I look like a fat Robocop when I'm ready for a ride...

  13. Ha did something similar with a mx lid...straight into local mx shop to buy some goggles as the shades didnt really cut it then when it rained...

  14. I like it,and 29 horses ain't bad for a 350 pushrod single
The early 350 Goldies were only 25bhp,even the last ones only made 32!
Ok,they were 50lb lighter, but the Oilfield has got the full 21st Century road kit, indicators and shite...bound to add something to the weight

  15. It's 535cc, not a 350.

  16. Oops...and thats what happens if you type without yer glasses on LOL
However, even a 500 Goldie only chucked out 42bhp,and I don't know anyone who'd want to HAVE to ride one of those every day
Occasional Sundays yes,but mostly for sitting and admiring
I bet this will be a sweet little bike, ideal for murfling around on a nice day,not going anywhere in too much of a hurry
Wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a bit of a cult bike too

  17. I think Enfields already are becoming a bit cult judging by the increase in prices. I see plenty of them being used in london, which makes perfect sense, they're much nicer to look at than a scooter, and probably cheaper to run too. I just wish they'd give them a touch more oomph, surely 40bhp could be easily attained for european markets?

  18. Still a few bargains about though
Last year I snapped up a mint one owner 350 Classic? with 1200 miles on it,a measly £1300....
The novelty of the diabolical front stopper,(last of the drum brake models),soon wore off
Loved the gentle nature of the motor,if it had the disc would probably still have it on the fleet

  19. 'ideal for murfling around on a nice day'

    Never heard that one before:upyeah:

I sold a 500 Bullet last year, it had been fitted with a front disc conversion kit which worked well enough for the speed I was getting up to.
I did find the bike amusing to ride here England, until I got on a dual carriageway, where the engines low power struggled to keep up with all the other traffic without being thrashed. It was fine 'Murfling' around the B roads at 50-55 mph once I had got the bugger started but I didn't have any regrets when the guy that bought it took it away in the back of a van.

I have a modern 180cc bike in India, most of my mates ride Bullets there, and when we go riding It's always the Bullets that break down or run out of fuel/oil, and muggins who has to go for help/fuel lol.
