Got the Guzzi for Sundays, flogged the fuglystrada, so now I'm looking for a cheapo bike capable of racking up some miles with the minimum of maintenance, it may even see continental action. But I don't know what I want, so that's where you come in. Here are the rules. 1. A thousand quid, give or take. 2. Got to be reliable. 3. Got to be fookin' fast. 4. No V-twins - fancy a change (some flexibility here...) 5. Age/mileage unimportant. 6. No self-assembly jobbies. Hit me...

Has it got to be a 1000cc? ive just done a quick look on autotrader, just said any bike, selected sports tourer and there's 45 for £1000 or less. gonna play with the other settings now, I like this game
Nope. I do quite fancy a CBR600, but then I am partial to a bit of raw power too. I reckon if it can hold a steady ton-twenty cruising speed it's worthy of consideration.
1998 cbr600f was prob the best 600f honda ever made. Seriously. From '99 onwards they felt "bendy" to me. 1998 was bombproof, good finish, appx 150 mls to a tank. Some really clean ones holding their value. Quick enough. Yamaha TDM 850 / 1995 ish Fireblade / Fazer / vfr750 / 800  Id be steering clear of old kwakers & suki's myself ( except a bandit - but theyre heavy ). You cant have it all with this criteria can you...?
Honda VFR750 like ive got in my garage, mines a 1996 model, so it has the F40 style air ducts on the side fairings and looks pretty sporty in red. Not far off my mates early Fireblade in performance, handles well, wheelies well, massive tank range and very comfortable to ride as well as for the pillons. I bought it for commuting when I sold my 748 and it was perfect for me. You can pick em up for about a grand now.
Hold the front page guys, I've just been advised of a Honda Blackbird for very very cheap. Seen some poor quality pics and it looks sound enough on them, just waiting for a phone number to ring the guy. We're talking Very Cheap here...
Fig, if you want to cover huge distances in comfort and at high speed - from personal experience I would say hunt down a Kawasaki GTR1000. Massively under-rated bike... 'kin fast... will do monumental mileages... low maint, shaft drive... can carry huge amounts of luggage...
