I'm need this answering before I take the stock heated grips off, been out all weekend and my hands a sore as hell (big wuss I hear you all saying lol) I just find the stock ones too harsh and a bit skinny, I've read most post on the subject and it doesn't look like a hard mod but no-one states what size grip is needed, i.e is it the same for both sides as most grips come with 2 different diameters and is there anything to be careful of or tips in doing the change Cheers Dave
Tennis racket handles are usually wound round with a layer of rubbery tape for the grip. This wears out eventually and has to be replaced. Sports shops that sell tennis stuff always stock rolls of replacement grip tape, in different sizes etc. May I suggest you consider winding this tape around your existing heated grips? No guarantee it will be satis for your needs, but worth a shot maybe. Also cheap and simple to try.
Another option on a similar theme is the tape used on racing cycle handlebars which are quite thick with cork in them so are soft as well.
Stick some 'grip-puppies' on. You can get them from Sportouring Bike Accessories. They are foam and simply slip over your existing grips, I use them and find them great...
Most aftermarket grips are actually smaller than ones with heated wires in them, so be careful you are not going to take them off to make the problem worse. I used to run race grips, not on the multi, and they are not much thicker than the bars themselves. The inner core is bigger for the throttle tube on one. Also I would be surprised if you could remove the standard grips without doing damage to them, anytime I have removed grips has always been with the help of a stanley knife and sharp blade!! I think it may well be worth trying as previous posters, you can buy different colours and its very comfy stuff, I use it on my badminton rackets all the time.
Brilliant, I think you'll like them Use a bit of water to tease them on but not soapy water, as the first time you get caught in a shower they bubble up!
