Definition of a Sport

  1. Totally agree with Cranker V2 - If there is no risk of serious injury or death then it not a sport, it's just a game or a pastime... Therefore speedway is a sport, soccer most definitely is not ! TT road racing is a sport, golf is a game... Darts is a game... Most forms of (recreational) fishing are just pastimes... And extending the scope of the discussion outwards slightly - a sport would involve "sportsman-like" behaviour, which automatically rules out any football...

  2. dont you at the very least have to have some degree of fitness above the average couch potato or session alcoholic, or at least be involved in an activity that would be adversely affected by lunging 40 Windsor Blues a day? a 72% BMI, hypertension, and blood in your pish does not an sportsman make...

  3. bullfighting isnt a sport. it is the dehumanizing, barbaric ritual torture and murder of scared, drugged, blinded and bled animals.
    anyone who gains pleasure from watching an animal suffocating on its own blood, its balls tied up with rope, kept in a darkened steel box that is banged and hammered to disorientate and frighten it, vaseline smeared in its eyes, starved, dehydrated, then to be released into a ring, or crowded streets, tethered to a rope for some pondlife dressed like Mickey Mouse with his little acorn popping out his tight kecks and then speared into its spinal cord, exhausted and stabbed to death before it dies of a heart attack, blood loss, or paralysis is quite simply, an utter c##t.

    by and large, i love spain and its culture...but this will one day be something that they will have to live down to their eternal shame and humiliation.
    it makes their country, and other latin american countries and people appear like mindless, vulgar and retarded uncivilised butchering monsters.

  8. A sport involves the risk of death to competitors and at times spectators, shame those dumb shit Spaniards need to involve a helpless creature. Why not have some crim with a death sentence hanging over him trying to getaway in an open topped Lada down those narrow streets with scythes on his wheels.

  9. In that case, by my definition, angling is a pastime not a sport. Many other games and pastimes have leagues, National and World championships (chess, darts, scrabble, snooker). But that does not make them sports.

    Lawnmower racing?
    Flying model aeroplanes?

  11. By your definition, stalking and shooting lions on foot in South Africa is a sport, and rugby union is not. I don't agree.

    Does it also mean that very obese blokes playing darts is a sport?

  19. Yes. I can't see that teasing an animal as you slowly put it to death is anything other than a barbaric pastime.

    I have seen a real live bullfight and I didn't like it. The tractor that comes into the ring to drag off the carcass as the matador struts around with the bollox or ears of the recently departed brings it home to you that is it indeed just a public abattoir with some sparkly clothes.

  20. Don't know about diving. I'd sweat if I had to hop off a 10m board and do a pike with three twists.

    I can tell you that swimming a mile brings me out in a sweat. It's just that most of it disappears into the pool. But I'm sweating when I get out. I know they make it look effortless, but I can assure you it isn't.
