Rossi is it the end?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by paulfastbikes, Sep 18, 2013.

  1. even on the Yamaha and the early season win he seems to have lost the magic touch
i dont think he will win the title ever again the edge has gone
    what you reckon?

  2. This maybe

German media reported Friday that nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi will field a two-bike Moto3 team in the World Championship next season, with Italians Romano Fenati and Luca Marini as riders. Marini is Rossi's half-brother.

Rossi reportedly has ordered two bikes from KTM and is seeking between sponsorship of approximately 1.5 million to 2 million euros for the team. That shouldn't be too much of a problem considering the magnetism of the Rossi name and brand.

  3. I think this is typical of Rossi. He seems to understand he is privileged to be riding bikes for a loving, behaves like that with his fans and feels the need to promote and give back to the sport.

cue the naysayers and haters

  5. I agree, that's just one of the reasons he's so valuable to the sport.....

His future ? They should move the old guys to WSBK, let the youngsters into MotoGP. Rossi and Edwards on superbikes, I'd pay.

  6. Don't think he has another title in him, which is kinda sad. Probably wasted his last chance going to Ducati, but tbh he had to try. Think the edge you're talking about is his body now, all those little injuries and that broken leg unfortunately add up and once you start getting a touch older just takes a little off you. At that level even a tiny amount is a lot! Still think he has a few race wins in him, but titles probably not.

As far as riding goes I hope he continues until he wants to stop, if you're enjoying it then why the hell stop?

  7. cue the defensive Rossi worshippers.....

  8. He's got a chance, the same as any of them have, whether he'd ever string enough points together to actually win would really need a strong tail wind and a shit load of luck.

To be honest lorenzo was pulling away from rossi the last time they rode together at Yamaha, Lorenzo has since matured massively as did Stoner&Dani and unfortunately Rossi simply got older.

He ain't slow, but it's just highly unlikely he'd ever win again, some just took longer to accept that fact.

Would he still be fast enoughfor wsbk?

Well look at Elias, not a bad first couple of races and he's not as fast as rossi so why not

  9. Rossi wont win another GP title. WSBK? Who knows, look at Biaggi...but imagine how much he'll lve breeding the next generation of champions. No one better they could learn from, in every respect

  10. if they brought the old tyre reg back - hed win more imho.

he can't t get along with the new soft wall tyre like he used too apparently

  11. I'm sorry but if they bought the old tyre regs back I think you'd find that the other boys would just adapt and still just simply be faster.

the blokes getting older, things have moved on, the competition is stronger than it was when he dominated, its just life.

im not taking anything away from him but thinking Rossi is still top of the game is just wishful thinking, he's still fast enough to run top 3-4 as he's proven but by the time he sorts out any further issues (late braking set backs) the other boys will have also worked on their own settings as such they get faster too.

Lorenzo is easily the faster of the two on that Yamaha, easily.

He may not warm the crowd like Rossi, he may not be as financially well rewarded, but he's just faster and much more consistent.

i still think there's room in Motogp for Rossi but I don't see a 10th win, not a chance really.

  12. age takes its toll no doubt but there are always exceptions to the rule.
give him point for when bautista took him out. itd be closer than it is
and when his front tyre failed/went off big time (chunk missing)

  13. Without Bautista taking him out and a dodgy tyre it would still make him 4th, if Lorenzo hadn't of crashed and spent a race away that gap would sill be bigger.

I'm not bashing him, I'm just realistic.

It seems many Rossi fans refuse to let it go, I do understand that as Rossi fans worship like no other, but it will happen, he will retire because he'll realise he isn't fast enough to win and he doesn't want to go out being a mid pack runner.

id be surprised if next year isn't his last, a step to WSBK however is probably a bloody good shout and by then they'll be a new R1 out so why not run that!

  14. yes good insight.
especially regarding issues particular to rossi

  15. He's fast still. Let's face it he ends up 4th more often than not. But his age is a factor now. And its a "mental" thing. Self preservation is kicking in and the turning point was the Simonceli accident.

  16. WSBK? I'd love to see it but how many fans go to motogp to see Rossi? If he moved and took that fan base with him it'd be good for WSBK but not so for motogp. Would Dorna allow it or rather he retired completely and ran a team?

  17. Rossi already funds a Moto 2 team, for the life of me I cant remember which one. Yep that Mat Oxley article pretty much hits hit straight on the head. Sadly, despite being a great rider, his time has come

  18. I think Rossi is fantastic but I don't think he will get another Motogp crown. The young Spaniards are too darn fast!

Would love to see him in World Superbikes, think he would do well there. He rode an 1198 road bike at Silverstone when he was with Ducati and on the stock bike I think he was only about a second or so down on the proper bikes.....

  19. I think there should be a minimum weight for all classes, but I also think that they should have 24 Ltr fuel; why not? that's not the cost saving needed I don't think.
