Impartial advice needed....

  1. Hello all,

I have a red 1994 900SS in nice condition/low miles. However, the bottom cylinder head has 2 sheared bolts and the bike has not been used for 7 or 8 years now. I do not have the space to store it nor the inclination to ride it so I think it is better just to sell it.

I am wondering it I would be better off breaking it for spares or selling as a project?

I have never broken a bike for spares before - anyone any advice or suggestions?

    thanks

  2. Only trouble in selling for spares is....finding someone that wants everything. You could have bits hanging around forever. I just sold some stuff off the road 620 ss as I race it £54 for a complete fairing, gave it away. Here it is: 320908186243

I think you are better selling it as a complete bike and someone will buy it who has the knowledge to repair it. JMHO.

  3. Do some homework, see if its worth getting it serviced and selling on OR selling as is, less the current service cost if it was running.....

  4. If you assume the bike is 'easily' repaired and can be made good and serviceable etc etc, then you could probably sell for say, £1600 - £2200 (Yes, I know it's a wide range, but those figures crop up often enough), but it will be quick cash in hand.

If you broke the bike as it is you should be able to add £1000 to the above figures........but you would probably have to wait for some time before you achieve that.

Do a check on Ebay to see what things go for......It will also give you a clue as to what you are likely to be permanently stuck with.....Footrests and hangers for example.

  5. it's too nice to break. Sell it to a good home - someone who can get it right again.

  6. a similar 900SS went for around £1400 within the last 3 weeks and that hadn't run for 5 years or more either. The bike looks so clean I think you could get a similar figure at this time of year. I think it would be a real shame to break it plus as said above it's not straightforward and usually stressful.

  7. It would make a nice donor bike for DD, you could you alot of that bar the engine

  8. The way some are performing this year I reckon they have 900's in them.
