I have used Muc off and a few other things on my Daytona for 3 years and its been okay, I wonder if there is something to be said for the water conditions making the soap PH extreme? Where I am the water is not too soft and not particularly hard. Also I have been told that the very worst thing you can do is use fairy liquid as its got soo much salt in it. ACF50 seems to be the stuff for winter, however I still wouldn't lather it on, just on plastics and the main frame parts
Hi, sorry to hear about the cleaning stripes. I've had the same on my road bike when i let the local Polish car wash clean it. I managed to the streaks out but it was plenty of time with Solvol Autosol and Merr. My usual routine (which isn't too usual as i ride all year so road bikes have that, 'What colour is it?' appearance) is to use Gunk with a brush on all the metal work, washing up liquid on the plastic with Merr to polish, then a silicone spray on bodywork and painted cases. All i use, except for washing up liquid, is available from Halfords.
I only use Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash on both my bike and car. Plenty of fresh water (several buckets) and a cotton mitt and finish with their ultimate wax polish on all painted surfaces after its been dried completely. Wouldn't trust any other stuff (apart from Autoglym) on either of my pride and joys. Anything that says it de-greases and removes grime is likely to be harsh by its nature on painted surfaces. I suggest using Meguiars SwirlX on the surface.
I use Muc off for both my Hyper and Mountain bike and have never had any problems. I don't leave it to soak for any length of time and if I don't get the clean finish first time reapply. So far I have had no issues with it effecting the finish to the bike. I have been impressed with how much easier it makes the cleaning process. I usually finish with an Autoglym (Turtle Wax) wash and polish with Pledge.
Muc off damaged the black plastic on my 99 bike streaks I've git to return the product to Carplan for testing . However ... I never trust this statement as " then we can send to our lab or technician usually means someone in the office sniffing it Then saying nothing wrong. I worked selling textiles and items made if bamboo fabric and the company used to get customers to return a faulty product back to be tested by the textile laboratory and Textile technologist . Hmmm this was rubbish ... The fabric was Indonesian and the fabric technologist was a lady in the sales office who palm them off with a token gesture. Maguires have excellent products I like their mental polish !
I use paraffin on the engine/swing arm/anything that gets chain lube fling,wash/wax and water on bodywork and everthing else. Make sure I wash off the paraffin if it's near the discs,and go for a spin straight after washing to heat the brakes and dry them out I don't pressure wash unless it's a dirt bike Never had an issue,apart from dogy anodising on BeeEmm rims,big argument/replaced under warranty/unlikely to ever buy another Beemer
people take the piss out of me because my bike its so clean..they cant believe its the same age as their daughters that im trying to shag. my secret? I dont go near any degreasers..i just keep on top of it..i dont do a full wash more than once a year..thats to say, cleaning the engine etc..if i have to (which i usually dont), i use this cheap shit product called Cyko from the poundshops..i think you get buy it supermarkets and Halfrauds for a 300% mark up..i thinks its quite weak as it never marks the casings. I use it on my Mountain Bike too..it takes a few applications and a bit of agitation with a toothbrush to get the really deep crud off the MTB.. Try it, it works! Word of warning..never go near a product called wonder wheels..this WILL fook anything it touches.. I can also vote up SDOC..great product, but not significantly better than CYKO for the price imho.
i live and breathe megiuars..i literally wont put any other polishes or waxes near my bike...unless ive got a nice car at the time (cars come and go) i dont bother..i only use Megs when ive got a car i really like. Their scratch removers are amazing. also have a go with ultimate compound...it does what t cut should do but without wrecking paint, leaving any marks, or removing top coat..oh and it smells of cinnamon.
I only ever use Castrol Greentec Halfords | Castrol Motorcycle Greentec Bike Cleaner - 1ltr and finish with Motorex Protect & Shine Motorex Protect and Shine 500ml. Would NEVER use Muckoff. Even the Autoglym bike cleaner leaves white streaks (and I usually swear by Autoglym). Both Greentec & P&S are recommended by BMW & Triumph. He11cat, you could try Protect & Shine and see if it removes/hides the staining ?
Did a bit of research and you can try and re-activate the active ingredient again using a dilute solution of the same stuff. Seems leaving this stuff to dry can cause the streaking. Also people who have seen this sort of surface damage have had reasonable success with Meguiars Paint Swirl remover.
