Trip to the Alps on a Multi

  1. Here's a few pictures from a recent trip to the French Alps. There were 8 of us and we rented a house for a week and had trips out on the surrounding roads which are amazing.
We were lucky with the weather and the Multi was in its element riding the roads it was made for.

Col du Galibier a view from the top

Col de la Bonette at the top, the highest paved road in France at 2802 metres. The french claim it to be the highest through road in Europe.

    Start of the Verdon Gorge.

We did 2800 miles in 11 days and had a great time.
The Multi was made for a trip like this and it performed faultlessly.
The only problem I had was that I bent the gear lever back getting a bit giddy on some of the hairpins.
I fitted GT Angels and have to say they were outstanding for a trip of this nature, loads of grip, excellent in the wet and still appear to have plenty of life left.

  2. Love it! Where did you rent the house?
I used to live in the Alps, it brings a tear to my eye seeing these roads! Did you go over bourg st Maurice to Aosta valley?
if you did you passed my old house in a Seez!

  3. Yeah sounds like a brilliant trip. Did a similar trip in the summer, unfortunately in a MX5, stayed at Bourg-en-bresse. Took the A40 to chamonix and through the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Visited the Duc factory in Bologna. Would consider doing it again on the bike for next year guys.

  4. We rented near L'Alpe d'Huez midway between Grenoble and Briancon.
We planned to go over from Bourg St Maurice to the Aosta Valley but ran out of time. A couple of the lads had been ski-ing at La Rosiere near Seez and wanted to show us this route
but we didnt make it, maybe next year.

  5. Top roads, top area. Pleased you got the weather to enjoy it. My favourite down there is the road running alongside Lac de Castellaine in the Verdon area, a race track if ever I saw one:upyeah:

  6. I would love to do this on my multi.

  7. I have been skiing at Bourg St Maurice! But would love to go back on the Multi, maybe a trip to do next year! Anyone else fancy it?

  8. Nice Checa lid there :upyeah:

Exactly why i bought mine, hope to do a couple of these type trips next year

  9. Fabulous photos from a fabulous trip. Thanks.

  10. Great place to stay!A great route is, from bourg st Maurice over the petit St. Bernard, down to Aosta turn left and go over the grand St. Bernard pass to Switzerland to martigny then go over the col to argentiere, chamonix, then head towards ugine, alberville, moutiers and back to bourg st Maurice, great days ride with plenty of amazing views!
    glad you enjoyed the trip!

  12. Yep. High on my list of things to do, hopefully next year.

  13. Nice pics. Like the idea of renting a house. I've just got back from a 6 day 2100 mile trip taking in Nancy, Klosters, Como (via Stelvio Pass), Chamonix, Bourges and Rouen. Fantastic riding in The Alps but I'm knackered!

  14. I remember doing Bourge St M over to La Thulie last September with snow and freezing conditions at top of Petite Saint Bernard. Bugger my hands were cold ...... oh how we laughed whilst queuing for the Mont Blanc tunnel ...
I was fiddling with a wire on the throttle grip ..... it was only the power supply to the heated grips I had forgotten all about being on the bike !!
There are some fantastic scenic routes down in the Alps ..... just a pity the French are so miserable ..... Why when they have such a beautiful country?

  15. French are very nice to motorcyclists.
More than you can say about the British general public.

  16. Great pictures; love riding in the Alps, went in 2012 and stopped in Bourge st Maurice. Fantastic roads and can not wait to get back

  17. Do it then:upyeah:

That's what the bike was built for.

  18. I stayed in Bourge st Maurice in July this year when making my way along the Route des Grandes Alpes on the MTS, stayed in a hotel with a bunch of rare cars and bikes in the basement garage. People must own this exotica and leave it in the Alps for driving holidays.
