Got 3 tickets last year when I rented a fiat 500 with the shitest engine ever! i received the first one about 2 months after I got back from the trip, I payed! then two days later I received 2 more, which I didn't pay. Forgot about until now, then I got back today and have 2 signed for envelopes which my wife signed from French authorities! yes you guessed it , the fines have come back to haunt me! 2 x fines now upped to 188 euros each! bastards! this is the first time this has ever happened, looks like I will have to pay!
Those 'Europeans' (the ones across the water) are very soon starting their own little 'sharing' club whereby if you are caught in another country then the ticket will follow you https://www.tispol.org/news/articles/tispol...%98driving-away
I'm led to believe that Switzerland is the worst. Their fines will make those French ones seem like pocket money.
Am I missing something here? You got caught speeding three times in one visit and your the injured party ? Confused. Do people believe they are impervious to law on the continent.
No, I got caught 3 times on one journey on a piece of autoroute that had no other traffic at 1 am, I didn't realise it was a 50kph limit , I was doing about 65kph! The reason I said bastards is because there french! Nothing to do with it being a fair cop!
Why is it, if you say something about the continent and Speeding people think they have a moral high ground saying about being above the law. i bet they ride or drive everywhere to the absolute limit. I only break the law abroad.......
No morale high ground. I saw three tickets which is a feat in any country. In my professional capacity I hear "I didn't know" a lot and you have my sympathy with it being on the same stretch of road, that's a tough deal for anyone. In the UK that could be argued as the one offense if its the same stretch of road on a single occasion. I would suggest you seek legal advice as to if the same would apply to french law.
The thing is I lived there for years and know exactly what the authorities are like, there will be no point in arguing the point, they love a bit of paperwork! And it wold probably take years and 10x the money! So I will pay .......the original fine price. That will confuse them!
Sorry to hear it. On an empty road at 1AM an officer would have probably made better judgement. Machines are unfortunately incapable of mitigation or circumstance.
Sorry to hear that Andy...seems like you've been unlucky!... I speed where ever I can as long as I feel its safe and there isn't a good chance of being caught, after all the Multi has a 'Sport' mode..yippee
You rented a fiat 500 from a French or UK rental company ? (I had to re-read the posts, I don't think the French CAN ask UK to pass personal details - yet (unless there is a death in a tunnel for example) - I think your issue is to do with rental companies passing your details) but maybe I missed the point ? bugs
So you have a choice, pay up or not. I had some, personal ones and hire care ones. Hire car ones have you by the short and curlies, as they pay the fine with the credit card you used at the hire start. Just don't implicate yourself by sharing your choice unless you always pay your fines, like I do. The buggers love forums like this
You are the first person I have ever heard off that has been chased for speeding fines from the Continent, I cannot see how they can be enforced, unless as a previous post states its because you were in a hire car, was the car French registered, if so then I think you will have to pay as you took out the agreement over there and they will chase you through details you have given to the hire company. Things are changing, they are getting quite good at picking us of near Calais and issuing large fines. But they are on the spot fines, lots of differing stories about what you can get away with but most of the stories are pants, oh, you can get done between Peages, bollocks, theoretically yes but its a motorway myth that doesnt happen. Good luck with whatever you do, sounds like it was a bit shitty the way they got you. cheers
Looks like the hire car is the root of the problem. I've set off every camera in France and never heard a thing...
