And I can't see the underslung rear brake caliper? Edit, because I had a brain fade and the underslung caliper was later.....
Yeah I'm sure they obviously didn't sell well over here as #110 was delivered to the UK in March 92 and not sold until March 93 , #171 was delivered to the UK June 6th 92 but not sold until August 1994 ! by Padgetts, so absolutely 100% MK1 SL. The rear Marvic was binned because the bolt holes elongated something that doesn't inspire me with confidence about using the Marvics as long term wheels. Remember all SL's have the numbered plate on the headstock and the MK1 just has the number , the MK2, 3 , 4 , 5 & FE have that stamped next to the number so no confusing what actual model they are regardless of registration letter.
I am looking forward to reading about this restoration. It looks a bit rough around the edges! And I hope there are no nasty suprises. Good luck!
'The rear Marvic was binned because the bolt holes elongated something that doesn't inspire me with confidence about using the Marvics as long term wheels'. As we said on your last resto for it to be 100% original you need the Marvics but they're potentially a pain and IMO don't look that great. I'd much rather see black wheels with the white frame
Wow did some one colour in the fairings with black marker but ran out if ink for the mirror's??!! Good luck with that one, should be a easy now you know what your doing
Looks pretty complete including original rear cans, really look forward to more pictures of your progress, I love these bikes!
As you have a MKI already will you keep this one or sell it. Also what colour will you do it in red or yellow?
It will be done in Red and yes when restored will probably be sold, its a good way to get rid of some of my spares and I shall enjoy doing another one a year on from the first, might make it an annual thing LOL. I've stripped all the bodywork off and stripped all the silly plastic wrap off. I now have a rough shopping list so will start to look. In the Meantime I will try and finish my Suzuki GT550 restoration, motor is already back together with a refurbished crank and NOS std rings so not long to go, I'd forgotton how much chrome was on 70's bikes so a lot of polishing Reqd.
Well quick update Imola popped round last night and let me have some of the missing fairing mounts, top man ! Gradually getting all the missing parts together before I drop the engine out and start the cleaning and rebuilding, picking up a std Brembo front wheel tomorrow so will probably end up selling the Front Marvic. The Exhaust tailpipes (std) have gone down to Steve Bailey to see if they can be repaired , scrapes etc. So things are starting to hot up unlike the weather :frown:
Thats the idea of a winter project, lovely evenings in the garage till you fingers are cold, then popping back to the house to warm the hands on the wife!!??
My Suffolk twang even comes through on the interweb!! I mean your hands not the wifes hands I think....
Another resto eh? This only goes towards me wanting my 900ss back from Baines's . Soon My pretty, Soon!
