I am surprised that you cant get touch up paint through the dealer network and I have a few paint chips that need a colour! Has anyone used a good supplier that they can recomend and matches the colour well (the mutley is of course red :biggrin. There seems to be plenty on fleabay but I always like to go with a recomendation. Thanks G.
Try this company Le Noir. RS Motorbike Paint Colours - Motorcycle paint, bike paint, Kawasaki Honda Yamaha
I bought the red touch up paint here on eBay recently - perfect match colour wise and comes with a pot of clear coat also. Auction description is: DUCATI RED 749 916 996 MOTORCYCLE TOUCH UP PAINT .....but the paint is Anniversary Red colour code 473.101 (PPG) eBay My World - select-finish
There are local car paint suppliers all over the country, who can make up a litre (or just a few spray cans) of any colour you specify, pretty cheap. You have to give them precise specifications and code numbers. The main finishes used on the MTS 1200 are: PPG - 473.101 Ducati Anniversary Red Lechler - L2909004 Arctic White Akzo - 57E22714 Black Diamond PPG - 228.880 Clear Lacquer
This is exactly why I love this forum....there is always some fantastic info to be found from someone....thanks a million
Paint matching from the PPG code is fine but the few paint guys I've talked to can't make sense of the 'Lechler' and 'Akzo' codes....Google searches didn't come up with anything either. Anyone found PPG equivalent codes for the Arctic White and Black Diamond? Of course there's Titanium bikes as well now.
Try this. The division of Akzo which makes auto paint is a Dutch company called Sikkens. Their website has a search facility for finding color formulas and recipes. For example, Ducati Rosso Anniversario (Anniversary red) is listed as DUC3002 and the mixing recipe (cumulative) for 1 litre in Autobase Plus is: Q231 to 717.7 Q766 to 719.5 Q725 to 759.8 Q065 to 986.8 Akzo Sikkens list Ducati black as DUC9006 and white as DUC4000, but do not call them "Black Diamond" or "Arctic White". See if your paint guys can make any sense of that.
Incidentally Lechler is an Italian paint company based in Como. Unfortunately their code tracing software ("Explorer") requires you to have a log-on, which paint suppliers will presumably have. For what it's worth, which is not much, here is their website for bikes: http://www.lechler.eu/on-line/en/Home/Refinish/Motorbikes.html
