Good Luck!!! You will for sure have fun! Do not forget to drop your tyre pressures. Go to the tyre guy (there is always one in track days) and get his advise. I usually use 32 front, 30 rear. I would not give a lot of attention to suspension settings etc, I would just go with the normal sports settings. For just having fun, great attention to suspension settings, tyres etc does not really make a lot of difference according to my opinion.
^^^Exactly I'd say, as first time, ride the bike the way you are used to it... just by lowering the pressure (which is necessary) you'll feel a different response; keep suspensions set how you'd go out for a blast. Maybe, once you're totally confident with the track and you really feel the need for a different set up then you might start to play around with them. And, in general, I would never use settings from someone else... unless we're talking about a professional who has checked your tyre wear, riding style, weight and height.
Addictive isn't it! Before you know it you're re-mortgaging your house, wife and kids.... Glad you enjoyed it. Dave
Even if it's raining you can have fun as this guy did I was following on my Mutley this summer at Oulton Park. About 8 people binned it in the wet. All got up but some of the bikes had turf all over them Oulton Park track day. - YouTube
I looked around the pits after we all parked up but couldn't find him! I wanted to let him know i'd caught it on film and to give him a copy. His mates would never believe him down the pub! Session before an elderly gent on a blue K100 binned it on the corner before; I almost ran over his snapped off indicator assembly. Those old school indicators are massive
Was the DTC doing over time in your sessions, did you have a play round with the set up on. A wet track??
The track was greasy as hell or quite wet depending on the time of day. Not helped by some 'car fest' being set up the same day so after every session lorries and other stuff went to and fro from the infield to outfield and back. Helpfully putting mud and stones down on the tract as they went; this caused delays so one session was dropped and you couldn't easily leave for lunch and fill up with fuel cheaper than the circuit stuff at 'silly pence' per litre either. Didn't see my DTC ring come on as was too busy looking for a slightly drier line all day:biggrin:. I'm not a very fast guy on track and this was my first time with the Mutley at Oulton (previous Oulton last year done on Gixer 750K4). kept it in 'Sport' mode, all suspension setting were factory standard with MPR3's on with lower psi f/back (31/34 I think) and Ohlins set for solo with luggage. Still got a lot of front fork dive, which was quite fun really. What pics do you want?
Bike Check entire bike, fluids, chain lube, tyres (Normal psi) Tape lights Remove No. Plate take off mirrors tape up speedo slow in fast out of corners build up speed slowly and comfortably through the day You Good sleep the night before Small snacks all day, No big meals at lunch keep well hydrated Most of all have fun
My track day was with 'Bike' magazine on a Reclaim the Track track day. No idea about insurance for these days. Your road insurance doesn't cover it and track insurance is for medical stuff as far as i'm aware. Having to ride it home 200 miles afterwards and not being able to afford major repair bills if I stack it is all the insurance I need!
