Olympics- Do you care?

  1. Despite our success in Motor Racing/Motorsport for many years we've never quite fully embraced road racing like France and Italy (and others) have. Ok, so we have Shelsey Walsh and Prescott which remain quite firmly established because they've been 'on the map' for so long. I'll never forget spectating here as a kid :- Bikes at Bouley Bay Easter 2010.m4v - YouTube. Newlands Corner nr Guildford is just perfect for a hillclimb but it's never going to happen.

  2. A few years ago the local newspaper did an April Fools issue that said the roads round Goodwood would be used as a road race, it rather backfired because everyone thought it would be a fantastic idea!

  3. MotorCycle Olympics, sounds like the Burt Munro Challenge we have here, we have the Bluff Hillclimb, NZ Longtrack Champs(Speedway + other classes) Oreti Beach Race, Speedway short track (including Sidecars) Teretonga Circuit races, Wyndham Street Race, plus a bike rally, bike show's (mainly Vintage and Classic) and some other events??? There is some guys that enter every event! Link here www.burtmunrochallenge.com/ I hope.

  4. For real they are taking up all that surface at Boxhill afterwards???? I was there the other week... most roads where closed due to resurfacing...
Actually that knob drawing would look excellent on the front and rear of our kits!! Well better then that Stella McCartney thing they call a design!
They could have a squirty bit that cools the athlete down built into it :)

My local travel agent is selling tickets starting about £160- £269 a ticket for one event!!!!!!
So hang on this is a great chance for Great Britain to see this ?????
Yes most family can really afford to splash out on that!!

Yes me thinks we are paying for all the corporate freebies , family and friends freebies and those in power... oh and a a teacake and butter will be at least £2.20.

An alternative anti Olympics would be fun the 400m dash to the loo after a bad curry , followed by the high jump ... at home where you have to get over your back gate.
Beer relay one person orders a round and you have to pass it from one person out to the other without spilling to you mate in the beer garden.

  5. I'll be surprised if they go to the expense of re-doing Boxhill road surface section tbh.. all the other work they've done along the A25 is certainly staying. One thing I am sure of is that the traffic calming speed humps will be going back on straight afterwards so enjoy it while you can.

  6. Hellcat ticlets to see Boxhill part were maximim 15GBP so your travel agent is taking a piss. Also with tickets I got a note that zone 1-9 daily tube ticket will be included.

  7. My brother got stadium tickets to see something like the cycling (can't remember what he said, but it ain't track/field) just for one day, and it's cost him well over a grand for the four of them. Way too rich for my blood.

  8. Figaro so what is in the price? I mean to get to MTB in essex will cost me 51 for ticket plus travel to place in petrol about 20 and parking 12 max. So 83 poubds. Takewondoooo ticket for finals was 45 but tube ticket for london included.

  9. can you get my kitchen done while you are at it please?

  10. I don't know luca, I'll have to find out. I know it's in one of the stadiums, that's all.

  11. Can't manage to get excited about it so we're buggering off to the sun for the duration.
When TFL are emailing me the joys of cycling & walking, it's clear that commuting on public transport won't be an option.

  12. Simon, it's cycling without cycle lanes - they're going to be full of Coke execs in limos... I'm working from home for the duration, or like you sodding off to the sun.

  13. Agree with most of the above but to be honest im looking forward to the ladies gymnastics....

Im fed up with seeing adverts endorsed by atheletes who as of yet have won feck all.

Will have to wait and see if we win anything other than the cycling.

  14. That's the only thing that intrigues me about the olympics. Will a home advantage help our athletes? It certainly did for the aussies at Sydney.

  15. Or even the cycling. Let's not count our chickens. Unlikely to look like a Bernard Mathews barn.

  16. I'm in and out once or twice a week, for a few hours at a time. It just won't work so faded pool shorts & flip-flops is the only sensible option. :upyeah:
