RACING EXPOSURE :: Club level motorsport e-magazine » Blog Archive » MALLORY PARK MOTORSPORT LIMITED TO BE PUT INTO ADMINISTRATION
Incommers who bought properties in the full knowledge that there was a race track nearby and who seem to have sufficient clout to scare the sh*t out of the local council who for many years have turned a blind eye, or should that be deaf ear, because of the the business and financil benefit track days and events bring to the area. Unfortunately the land has also been sold for greed to an even greedier financilcentric business who if I were the local council would refuse planning permission for any houses. The local infrastructure cannot cope with that sort of development but it is ironic that the NIMBYs will get there come uppence and be living on a building site for along time. Criminal that we will lose a circuit of great character that has seen many BSB battles and many fantastic track days. Andy
I was there on Sunday with my son at the thundersport meet. I actually told him to make the most of his racing as I thought it would be the last time he would race there. Its a great shame that this has been allowed to happen. The ironic thing is that if they do build a housing development. The roads will be called Gerards Way, Bus stop close and Edwina's avenue. Which is a real piss take. The residents think they have problems with the track!! Stick some affordable housing on there then they will be sorry!!
Its a sad day, my local circuit. Hope the complaining locals have to put up with the noise of construction traffic building 100's of homes for the next 10 - 20 years. Probably turn a great little village into a commuter town for Leicester.
Its only the company who rent the circuit who have gone bust and not the circuit owners. The administrators say they aim to keep racing at Mallory.
Sad day indeed Mallory was my first DD race meet and my introduction to paddock life. A nice big housing estate filled with affordable housing I'm sure will bring harmony to the area Karma has a way of going around
Sad indeed, my first race win there. Maybe if you look into it a bit more the track management might just be at fault for crying the poor tale and not doing their job in terms of updating the conditions of racing and trackdays vis a vis noise and residents of 30 years or less, just maybe..... OGR
Loved Mallory since the 70's watching vintage racing there. The sight and sound of classic bikes, sidecars and Morgans going round the lake is one of my best memories from my early biking years. Spent a weekend there at BSB when Shakey and Haydon were coming up the ranks and had a great night in the pub. Also did my 1st (of 2) trackdays there about 10 years ago sliding round a damp track, and took my girlfriend to fest of 1000 bikes last year. A great little track with excellent viewing and atmosphere, it'll be a real shame if it closes.
Just saw this on facebook. [h=5]Mallory Park have just given this update on their situation...looks like the fight is over...such a shame the opinions of a few can spoil the enjoyment of so many...next time if you're worried about noise...don't move next to a race circuit! "Update regarding events at Mallory Park – cancellations Further to all earlier updates, we are sorry to announce the cancellation of all future track and non-track events at Mallory Park, with the exception of the LOROS Fireworks charity event on Saturday, 2 November, which will continue as planned. Further details about the LOROS Fireworks event can be found on the LOROS website."[/h] Steve
Oh the irony, close the circuit for noise, but then have a massive fireworks display, coz their like totally quiet dude. But its okay, its for charadee mate. What a load of fucking bullshit!!
thin end of the wedge sadly. think 10 to 15 years from now... 1st croft now mallory.... until we all get electric track bikes we are doomed !!!
The reason that Mallory has closed is solely the fault of the BARC running and renting the circuit who chose to ignore the regulations in place despite the best efforts of the Council to resolve the problems. The BARC proved to be unreasonable in all negotiations. They then chose to put themselves into Voluntary liquidation to try and get round the current noise limits and to avoid paying the fine imposed. I doubt racing is finished there as the current owners of the circuit wish it to continue but hopefully next time they rent it out to a Company more in tune with reality.
caused through noise. the subsequent allotment of days usage wouldnt pay the bills.. whatever way you look at it - its noise.. the rest is just superfluous waffle
Would you want to live next to a racetrack with no noise limits and the owners using it every single day? And you can't use the argument that you shouldn't live next to track if you don't like the noise because the residents accepted usage under the conditions laid down and agreed to but BARC chose to ignore those and to also make changes to the track which increased noise without planning permission. Its totally unreasonable to expect usage of a facility like that on that basis unless the track is in the middle of nowhere. The council dispute the days usage wont pay the bills but regardless no one can just ignore the rules laid down and agreed to by the circuit company just because it suits them. The way the BARC have gone about this has done more damage to tracks around the country than just to Mallory.
