Is anyone else from the forum going to this? If you've not seen the event, google it. But basically you need a cafe racer/odd ball bike, a suit, and an open face lid. I'll be out on the Pantah for a tootle around town with some other gentleman. The finish location is the Ship Inn near Wandsworth Bridge, which the London guys will know well ;-)
I saw this thread too late get involved but am interested for next year. How was it ? I also have a Pantah so if we persuade 1950 Pete to come as well we`d probably have nearly all the Pantas in the UK in attendance .
Well actually ... I hesitate to say it ... but Nick's is more of a Pantah tribute band than an original.
Where do you draw the line at original ? Tyres, mirrors, indicators , exhausts or more serious internal modifications and drastic appearance alterations ?
Does the rear cylinder head have the exhaust at the back or the front? Bevels and Pantahs = front; all later models = back.
I'm sure you'll correct me Pete, but I don't recall the Pantah name anywhere other than the motor belt covers on any SL model. I've also seen motors with the rear head the wrong way around with the same Pantah labelling on the belt covers... So should the model we all know as a Pantah be more correctly identified as an SL500/600/650?
Belt covers are widely swappable between various different models, so whether a particular engine has belt covers fitted with "Pantah" written on them or not doesn't really tell us anything. Conventionally, Pantahs and Pantah-engined bikes include the various 350, 500, 600, 650 and 750 SL, XL and TL models, including the F1 models. They all have the rear heads with the exhaust at the front and the carb at the rear. Ducati then changed over to the new head design with the exhausts at the rear (and thus both carbs/fuel injection units between the two heads) for all subsequent models, I believe without exception, including Pasos, Supersports and Monsters etc. Somebody will tell me if I am wrong.
